Budapest has often been
compared to Paris and it is easy to see that there
is a likeness with its grand buildings, ancient churches,
sumptuous palaces and café society. The mighty
Danube cuts a swathe through the heart of the city
and lovers wander along the banks, sampling the outdoor
cafés. Gypsy violinists still serenade diners
and a visit to the city would not be complete without
spoiling yourself at one of the spas.
Budapest can rival Western
Europe with its choice of restaurants and selection
of shops but its prices are definitely out of date,
making it a very affordable city.
The convenience of the
location of the capital means that nowhere is more
than three hours drive away, but good-value accommodation
everywhere allows you to explore the many historic
towns and enjoy Lake Balaton at leisure.
