An
8 day beach stay incorporating sightseeing in Albania from £550 per person
This new 8-day itinerary combines the rest and relaxation of a beach holiday
with half day trips out to the highlights of Southern Albania. Such sites include
the impressive ruins of Butrinti. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Butrinti has been
the site of a Greek colony, a Roman city and a Bishopric. We also include a visit
to the well-preserved Ottoman town of Gjirokastra, also known as the birthplace
of Enver Hoxha, Albania’s former communist leader. If you are looking
for a beach holiday with a difference then this itinerary is ideal. We have not
included flights as we can book charter flights to Corfu through our sister Travel Agency or you can book your own flights on low cost carriers. Corfu is a short ferry
transfer to Saranda.

Corfu. collect ferry ticket to Saranda (will advice choice of departure times
for you to choose at time of booking). Check-in hotel in Saranda for 7 nights

excursion to the Greek and Roman ruins of Butrinti, Albania's most important archaeological
site. This rediscovered city is a microcosm of almost 3,000 years of Mediterranean
history. Its 6th century BC fortification evokes the city's military power and
the 3rd century BC amphitheatre symbolizes the rich culture of this once thriving
ancient city. Return to Saranda for afternoon at leisure. |

Morning excursion to the remains of a monastery
of the 40 Saints, from which the modern name of the Saranda is derived,
an old orthodox church of Mesopotam and the Syri i Kalter - known also as the
'blue eye' - a huge, deep spring where begins a small river. Return
to Saranda for afternoon at leisure. | | Day

Day 6 |
Morning excursion to the museum city of Gjirokastra,
the birthplace of former iron-fisted dictator
of Albania, Enver Hoxha. Gjirokastra is a strikingly picturesque town, perched
on the side of a mountain above the Drino River.
The tour includes the district museum, housed in the building in which Enver Hoxha
was born and the pre-Ottoman citadel, a former political prison and now a weapons
museum. In the afternoon return to Saranda. |
