Why not try one of the many potato dishes when you are in Belarus? The best dish in my opinion is potato pancakes with sour cream called draniki – excellent when washed down with a local beer (half the price of imported Russian or Czech varieties) or a shot of Belarusian vodka, as Minsk distilleries are reputed to be amongst the best in the world!

Belavezhskaya Pushcha National Park City Breaks

When on a tour of Belarus, make sure to visit the astounding Belavezhskaya Pushcha National Park. Over 1300sq km of primeval forest not only survives but thrives here, providing a breathtaking and evocative glimpse into the kind of landscape that was once abundant across Europe but is now scarce. An impressive number of mammals such as the famous European bison and Tarpan horse, as well as lynx, deer, wolves, elks, otters and mink, inhabit the teeming forest. Belavezhskaya Pushcha is also famous for its ancient oak trees, some over 600cm in trunk diameter and thought to be over 450 years old.
