For romantic dining in Dubrovnik, head to the restaurant ‘Yacht Club Orsan’, on Lapad Peninsula. Set on the harbour front; enjoy delicious Dalmatian prsut (prosciutto) and ‘Risotto Negro’, washed down by crisp Croatian white wine.

Dubrovnik

Be prepared to be enchanted by this well-preserved baroque town, dominated by its encircling walls, lying on the picturesque Dalmatian coast. Amble along the tightly packed narrow streets of the Old Town and spend time in the grand Dominican Monastery admiring its collection of fine paintings. Stroll along the main throughfare, the Stradun, by day and then join the nightly promenade where people come to see and be seen. Make sure you try the fresh seafood, virtually straight from the boat, take in a concert in the courtyard of the Rector's Palace or join the locals in one of the many buzzing bars.

When to go

Dubrovnik can get very busy during the summer months but one of the best festivals St Blaise Day takes place out of season on the week preceding the 3rd February. St Blaise is Dubrovnik’s patron saint and nearly all of Dubrovnik turn out to help celebrate this day. Villagers from the region flock to Dubrovnik and display their local culture with colourful costumes and folk dances. During high season don’t miss the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, which keeps the Old Town young every summer for the months of July and August. Concerts of all sorts take place early every night in venues around town while every place with a stage hosts a play or two.

Regent Recommends...

Whatever you do don't miss the boat! The urgency of the calls for the boat to Cavtat makes you think there will never be another one. But boats leave Dubrovnik port every half hour to make the journey to the quiet harbour town of Cavtat. After the almost overwhelming beauty of Dubrovnik relax on Cavtat's colourful waterfront and go shopping in the narrow cobbled streets, home to a thriving artist community.
