Whilst in Shanghai get up early and watch the silent agile movements of the Shanghainese as they practise the ancient art of Tai Chi. Then head over to the Yu Garden Bazaar for a delicious breakfast of steamed dumplings – try the delicious Nanxiang dumplings stuffed with pork and dipped into vinegar and ginger.

Guilin City Breaks

The unique natural beauty of Guilin is one of China’s most iconic and inspiring sights, and a visit here is one of the most popular calling points on our China tour itineraries. The city and its surroundings are characterised by the distinctly shaped karsts (hills) that pop out of an otherwise flat landscape like giant, vegetation-covered stalagmites. This one of a kind and intriguing landscape is a massive draw for tourists and as such the city itself has developed as an impressive and friendly place with plenty of great restaurants, hotels and fascinating attractions.

Explore the verdant peaks and vast, magnificent caves of Seven Star Park and Reed Flute Cave, take a boat trip and witness some cormorant fishing on the scenic Li River, and enjoy the spectacular views from the Solitary Beauty Peak in the centre of town, it’s no wonder Bill Clinton described Guilin as “evocative of the beauty of the whole of China” on a visit here in 1998.

Outside Guilin...

An easy 65km bus trip away from Guilin is the relaxing paradise of Yangshuo. This is one of the best places to experience the karst topography of the region, with some excellent bike trails and boat rides along the Li River. Abundant with cafés, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops, Yangshuo is one of China’s most atmospheric towns and is a wonderful place to sit back and soak up the unique beauty that typifies the region.
