My favourite restaurant in Vilnius is Lokys located in the old town. This medieval restaurant set in Gothic cellars serves up delicious meals such as boar and venison. In the summer the terrace is a pleasant area to sit and relax. Not the cheapest restaurant but the quality has always been excellent, when I have visited!

Hill of Crosses City Breaks

The Hill of Crosses is one of the country’s most sacred and important sights and a must-see on any tour to Lithuania. This unique and eerie attraction consists of thousands of crosses and monuments of all shapes and sizes - some simple, some intricately carved folk art, some massive, some so small they hang from larger crosses - and is truly a sight to behold. Lithuanians have been planting crosses here since the mid-19th century, even carrying on when the Soviets repeatedly bulldozed the site in the 1960s, and it is now an immensely popular pilgrimage site particularly since the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1993. The Hill of Crosses is not only a humbling religious landmark but also an enduring symbol of Lithuania’s defiance in the face of destructive occupation and strict authoritarian control.
