On my last short break to Prague, I was impressed as much by the food and quality of service in restaurants as I was by the wonderfully preserved architecture. I'd definitely recommend dining at the Skorepka restaurant, which was excellent value for money and the waiters were so friendly. The portions were so huge that we just couldn't clean our plates!

Prague City Breaks

It is easy to see why Prague is the jewel in the crown of European capitals and is still a firm favourite for year-round city breaks. In summer the city buzzes with street theatre and open-air cafes; autumn mists give it a romantic haze; in winter the Christmas Markets equal any in Germany and the Prague Spring Festival dominates May.

Prague is constantly alive with visitors who come to wonder at medieval architecture, winding streets reminiscent of a Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, cobbled squares and monuments to a great past. Prague's artisans specialise in fine filigree silver work, wood carvings, porcelain and Bohemian crystal - all of which can be bought on its most famous landmark, Charles Bridge. Nearby Wenceslas Square is home to Prague's most elegant cafés and hotels - perfect for a glass of postshopping Czech beer.

Regent Recommends...

Visit the Museum of Communism in Prague and get a taste of what it was like to live under 40 years of Communism for the people of Prague. Scenes from daily life, school and the factory depict how pervasive Communism was, with an interrogation room recreated for citizens who dared to raise their head above the parapet. Make sure you take home one of those quirky socialist-realist t-shirts from the gift shop or pick one up from the many stalls that line Charles Bridge.
