Rundale Palace City Breaks

Latvia’s Rundale Palace was designed by the same architect who built St Petersburg’s Winter Palace, and although it’s not as vast as its Russian cousin, it is no less beautiful or majestic. This magnificent Baroque structure decorated with a surfeit of impressive rococo interiors is an undoubted highlight of any tour to Latvia and can easily be visited on a day excursion from Riga. Incongruously situated amongst bucolic cottages and farmhouses, the Rundale Palace is a sight to behold as you approach it through a pretty orchard and opulent gates. Inside you will find meticulously restored 18th-century frescoes, ornate carvings and stuccowork, enchanting ceiling paintings of gods and ostentatious mirrors - all evoking that long lost sense of imperial excess and romance.
