I always recommend even in winter or summer take the local train from Riga Railway Station (watch our for pick pockets here though!) to Jurmala. This is Latvia's Riviera, where faded elegant wooden villas edge tree-lined streets guiding you to the wide, sandy beaches. The sea is sometimes frozen in the winter, which is an incredible sight to see!

Sigulda & Guaja National Park City Breaks

Situated just 53km outside of Riga, Sigulda is a picturesque haven where locals and tourists alike gather to escape the city and enjoy a splendid slice of Baltic countryside. Dubbed the “Switzerland of Latvia”, Sigulda provides a gorgeous and dramatic setting perfect for both relaxing and more active pursuits. Enjoy a resplendent walk through lush forests and the beautiful grounds of the 13th-century Turaida Castle, take a hair-raising ride on a winding bobsled track, ski down Latvia’s best slopes or simply kick back and enjoy the stunning scenery.

There’s no shortage of fantastic sights to discover and explore in the area; Guaja National Park with its diverse wildlife and plethora of historical and cultural landmarks, Gutmana Cave – Latvia’s deepest, and the Knights of the Sword Castle are but a few of the things that will keep you busy in Sigulda.
