The remote city of Wonsan, located on the east coast around half a day’s drive from Pyongyang via a winding scenic route through picturesque mountains, is one of the country’s major seaports and makes for a short but interesting stop-off on a tour of North Korea. The town itself is imbued with a pleasant atmosphere with some interesting museums to peruse and, somewhat rare for North Korea, a lovely, pine tree-lined beach ideal for swimming and bathing.
