North Koreans generally love table tennis – proposing an international tournament to be played in your hotel will likely be very popular, and whilst this is good for international friendship don’t be too upset by what will be your inevitable crushing defeat!

Wonsan City Breaks

The remote city of Wonsan, located on the east coast around half a day’s drive from Pyongyang via a winding scenic route through picturesque mountains, is one of the country’s major seaports and makes for a short but interesting stop-off on a tour of North Korea. The town itself is imbued with a pleasant atmosphere with some interesting museums to peruse and, somewhat rare for North Korea, a lovely, pine tree-lined beach ideal for swimming and bathing. Highlights include the Kaeson History Museum, the Provincial Art Gallery and a visit to the Songdowon Children’s Union Camp – a summer camp that kids from all over the country flock to to enjoy activities such as boating, diving and various sports.

Wonsan’s main attractions can be visited in a day and a visit here is usually combined with the spectacular Mt. Kumgang and the city of Hamhung.
