Yangtze River Three Gorges City Breaks

No tour of China would be a complete without a cruise on the legendary Yangtze River. Snaking its way across China from the snowy peaks of western China all the way to the metropolis of Shanghai, at 6300km it is the country’s longest river and third longest in the world. The Yangtze (sometimes spelled as ‘Yangzi’ or referred to by its traditional name of Chang Jiang) and its various tributaries have effectively acted as China’s backbone for centuries, connecting the country economically and culturally, passing through countless historically important cities, towns and landmarks.

The famous Three Gorges of Qutang, Wu and Xiling have attracted visitors for decades and are truly spectacular. Despite the dam causing the river level to rise and making the gorges appear smaller, they are still a sight to behold.

Our Highlights of China tour includes a relaxing 3-day Yangtze River cruise which departs from Chongqing and makes its way to Yichang via the majestic Three Gorges and numerous ancient sites as well as the man-made wonder that is the Three Gorges Dam.

Yangtze River - Regent Recommends...

Fengdu Ghost City. Located on the Ming Mountain near Chongqing, this is a fascinating place devoted to all things hellish. Sights adorned with ornate carvings of demons and devils supposedly connect the netherworld to the real world and provide a series of tests and judgements for ghosts to pass to determine whether they end up in heaven or hell. With ominous names like Ghost Torturing Pass and Last Glance at Home Tower, Fengdu is a unique and eerie highlight of a Yangtze River cruise.
