My favourite restaurant in Krakow is definitely Wierzynek, on Market Square. You do need to book as the place very popular. It is a very grand restaurant with a history dating back to 1364 and it was certainly the most expensive place we dined in whilst in Krakow but if it is good enough for George Bush and Fidel Castro, although they probably did not eat together...

About Poland

More than many countries Poland has endured periods of oppression and internal struggle, but with EU membership money has begun to flow into the country. Here you will find vast wildernesses, breathtaking mountains, unspoilt forests peppered with lakes and windswept sand dunes on the Baltic coast. Across this huge expanse you will encounter towns and cities rich in history both glorious and tragic.

Admire the painstaking reconstruction of Warsaw's Old Town which contrasts so vividly with the Stalinist architecture. Take in the treasures of Krakow whose imposing castle peers down on a maze of medieval streets and follow the struggles of Solidarity amidst the rebuilt Renaissance delights of Gdansk. Don't miss enchanting Wroclaw, spread over twelve islands with over 100 bridges spanning the network of canals, full of dramatic Gothic architecture.

Head into the mountains and the winter sport resort of Zakopane where you can follow the walking trails through the nearby Tatra National Park. Delve underground into the cavernous chambers of a salt mine, stop at Jasna Gora Monastery, home to the miraculous icon of the Black Madonna, and contemplate the suffering of those who passed through Auschwitz.

Regent Holidays arranges tailor-made itineraries, group tours and fly-drive holidays throughout Poland, as well as city breaks to Warsaw, Krakow and Gdansk.
