10 day fly-drive holiday tour of Iceland with optional
activities
Ideal for the independent traveller,
giving you the freedom to explore Iceland by car, with
the added attraction of having each nights accommodation
booked in advance. 2WD & 4WD Vehicles are available
for hire; Including Unlimited Mileage. Third Party Insurance
Cover & Sales Tax. Note: CDW Insurance Cover is
available for an optional supplement - Please see price
panel. Accommodation throughout will be located on or
close to the Ring Road, Route 1. in Hotels and/or Farmhouses,
subject to availability, in rooms with private facilities,
including Breakfast.
IMPORTANT
NOTICE: The
Highland Interior Routes 'Sprengisandur' and 'Kjolur'
are open for traffic during the months of July and August
and can only be undertaken in a 4WD Vehicle. Outside
this period, or in a 2WD Vehicle the alternative route
back to Reykjavik on Day 9 of the suggested itinerary,
is by the 'Ring Road' Route 1, a distance of some 488
Kms, a full days drive. However, you may wish to consider
an overnight stop en-route, giving you one night, instead
of two, in Reykjavik at the end of the itinerary before
your return to the UK. [Note: In order to traverse the
'Sprengisandur' Interior Route a Group I Vehicle is
recommended].

Fly
UK/Iceland.

Departing 2110/ Arriving 2310).
Collect
hired vehicle on arrival at Keflavik International
Airportbefore proceeding to your overnight accommodation
situated on the Reykjanes Peninsula beside thefamous
Blue Lagoon. (Approx. 15 minutes drive from the
Airport).Overnight Grindavik: Northern Light Inn.
Optional Activity: Bathing
in the Blue Lagoon.

|
GRINDAVIK
- SELFOSS REGION - Approx. 135 Km
Explore Iceland's 'Golden
Circle'. Drive to the magnificent Gullfoss
Waterfall and Geysir
Hot Spring area with it's spouting geyser
'Strokkur'. Explore
the stunningly beautiful Thingvellir
National Park with it's wealth of natural
attractions, flanked by snow-covered peaks. Visit
the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi
where abundant geothermal energy is used for growing
fruits, vegetables and flowers. The next two nights
will be spent in the region of the southern countryside.

SELFOSS
REGION
Spend the day exploring further Iceland's spectacular
southern region. Beyond the 'Golden Circle' is a
wealth of natural attractions. Highlights include:
Thjorsardalur Valley &
Mt. Hekla, Iceland's most famous volcano.
Other options [4WD needed] include Thorsmork
Nature Reserve, a forested glacial valley,
one of Iceland's most beautiful sites, surrounded
by glaciers and mountain peaks. The outstanding
scenery of Landmannalaugar
hidden in the highlands of Iceland with it's magnificent
rhyolite peaks, blue mountain lakes, hot and cold
springs and rambling lava flows.

SELFOSS
REGION - KIRKJUBAEJARKLAUSTUR REGION
- Approx. 201 Km
Depart the southern countryside, following Route
1, along Iceland's south shores with its black sand
beaches and rugged lava fields, passing the beautiful
waterfalls Seljalandfoss
and Skogafoss the Eyjafjallajokull
glacier and Iceland's fourth largest icecap Myrdalsjokull
glacier, Iceland's southernmost town of Vik
i Myrdal to your overnight accommodation.
The Fjallabak [Behind the Mountains] Route F208,
is a spectacular alternative to the coastal route
between Hella and Kirkjubaejarklaustur.
In part the route is fairly good, however, there
are river fords and a high wheel base Vehicle is
recommended [Group I]. Overnight in the region of
Kirkjubaejarklaustur.

KIRKJUBAEJARKLAUSTUR REGION
- HOFN REGION - Approx. 201 Km
Many of Iceland's most spectacular natural wonders
await you today. Explore Skaftafell
National Park its stunning scenery may
well be unmatched anywhere in Iceland. A must
see for travellers between Skatfafell and Hofn
is the glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon
full of icebergs calved from the glacier Breidamerkurjokull.
Boat trips are also possible, departing from the
dock whenever a willing boatload is waiting. Not
forgetting the vast Vatnajokull
glacier which dominates this region, nowhere else
can you enjoy such a stunning panorama of ice.
Snowmobile tours are available from Joklasel accessible
by 4WD only. However, organised tours are available
from May-September. Overnight in the region of
Hofn.
Optional
Activities:
Boat Trip on Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon. Snowmobiling
on Vatnajokull.

HOFN
REGION - EGILSSTADIR REGION - Approx. 247
Km
Enjoy the dramatic landscape, rugged coastline and
snow-capped peaks of the East
Fjords. The forested surrounds of Lake
Logurinn, home to the Country's largest forest
Hallormsstadur and
Iceland's third highest waterfall Hengifoss.

EGILSSTADIR
REGION - LAKE MYVATN REGION - Approx. 165
Km
Heading north the Ring Road takes a drastic short-cut,
inland across the stark and barren highland plateau
of the north-east interior to Lake
Myvatn where the next two nights will be
spent in this region. Overnight in the region of
Lake Myvatn. |

LAKE
MYVATN REGION
Day at leisure to explore the natural wonders around
this region. Lake Myvatn
a stunningly beautiful area and one of Iceland's
most popular tourist attractions. Visit the town
of Akureyri known
as the 'Capital of the North' nestled beneath magnififcent
snow-capped peaks. Godafoss
- Waterfall of the Gods. The fishing village of
Husavik - Iceland's foremost Whale Watching venue.
From mid June-August 4WD recommended, other highlights
include: Jokulsargljufur National
Park - Iceland's Grand Canyon. Driving around
the Tjornes Peninsula. Dettifoss
Waterfall - Europe's mightiest and the horse-shoe
shaped canyon - Asbyrgi.

MYVATN REGION - REYKJAVIK - Approx. 488 Km
During the months of July and August the interior
routes 'Kjolur' &
'Sprengisandur' are
an option by 4WD Vehicles only. Outside this period,
or by 2WD Vehicles, the route back to Reykjavik
is by the Ring Road, Route 1, a distance of some
488 Kms. a full days drive. Alternatively, you may
wish to consider an overnight en-route. Overnight
