8 day fly-drive holiday tour around Iceland with optional
activities
This
fly-drive holiday takes you around Iceland visiting
all the main attractions. Accommodation is with FossHotel,
a chain of 11 Tourist Class Hotels situated around
Iceland, ranging from Summer Hotels, used as schools
during the Winter, to 3 Star properties. Accommodation
will be offered in the area mentioned at a FossHotel
or similar accommodation.
Note:
It might not be possible at all times, to visit sights
or to take part in all of the optional activities
mentioned. These itineraries are only suggestions
and not a full and detailed description of all attractions
available en-route. A good guide book is essential
when touring Iceland.

Fly
UK/Iceland.
( Note: Flights
from London Heathrow based on 'Evening Special'
departures.
Departing 2110/ Arriving 2310).
Collect car hire on arrival at Keflavik International
Airport. Overnight Reykjavik: FossHotel or similar.
Optional
Activity: Whale Watching Boat Safari from Reykjavik
Harbour.

2
|
REYKJAVIK
- NORTH WEST ICELAND
Depart Reykjavik by way of Route 1, via Hvalfjordur
Fjord, through the lush farmlands to the Borgarfjordur
District, north to Skagafjordur,
saga country, a district particularly well known
for the Icelandic horse. Another option would be
to take in the Snaefellsnes
Peninsula before heading for your overnight
accommodation at Saudarkrokur.
Overnight Saudarkrokur: FossHotel Aning or similar.
Optional
Activities: River-Rafting. Horse-Riding. Golf. Fishing.

NORTH
WEST - NORTH ICELAND
Continue along Iceland's northern shores by Route
1 to Akureyri 'Capital
of the North'. Onwards by way of Godafoss
- Waterfall of the Gods, before arriving at your
overnight accommodation. Recommended is a 3 Hour
Whale Watching Boat Trip from Husavik Harbour along
with a visit to the Whale museum. Overnight: FossHotel
at Laugar or Husavik.

NORTH
- NORTH EAST ICELAND
Explore the natural wonders of Lake
Myvatn. Alternatively during the period mid
June - August [Note: 4WD necessary] you could explore
the Tjornes Peninsula
and Asbyrgi, the horse-shoe
shaped canyon, along with Dettifoss
- Europe's mightiest waterfall, before the interior
highland plateau is traversed to Egilsstadir
for an overnight stay in this region. Overnight:
FossHotel Hallormstadir or Reydarfjordur or similar. |

EAST - SOUTH EAST ICELAND
Enjoy the dramatic landscape and fishing villages
of the Eastern Fjords
before reaching Europe's largest glacier 'Vatnajokull'
, for an overnight stay in the region of
Hornafjordur. Overnight: FossHotel Vatnajokull
or similar.

SOUTH
EAST - SOUTH ICELAND
Continue driving Route 1, along Iceland's southern
shores where many of Iceland's natural wonders await,
passing Jokulsarlon Glacial
Lagoon, Skaftafell National Park, Iceland's
southernmost village Vik i
Myrdal, over black sandy beaches and rugged
lava fields to your overnight stay in the southern
region.
Overnight: FossHotel Mosfell. FossHotel Nesbud or
Hlid.
Optional
Activities:
Snowmobiling on Vatnajokull.
Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon Cruise.

SOUTH
ICELAND - REYKJAVIK
Spend the day exploring Iceland's famed 'Golden
Circle' visiting the magnificent 'Gullfoss'
Waterfall, known as the Golden Falls and one of Iceland's
most impressive Geysir
a hot spring area with it's bubbling mud pools and
spouting geyser 'Strokkur';
together with the stunningly beautiful 'Thingvellir'
National Park, flanked by snow-covered peaks
and home to a wealth of natural attractions before
returning to Reykjavik.
Overnight Reykjavik: FossHotel or similar.
