A 9 day BESTSELLER coach tour of Iceland with all Iceland's main attractions

This classic circle tour shows the visitor many of Iceland's major sights in the course of seven days. Travelling mainly by the Ring Road which encircles the country, eastwards towards the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier, alongside it and onwards lies Iceland's southern coast, sandwiched between mountains, glaciers and the sea. After stops at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, we continue to Dyrhólaey Nature Reserve [closed during the nesting period until June 25th]. The promontory there is a natural arch carved by the relentless pounding of wind and surf, whose sounds accompany the cries of countless seabirds nesting in its crevices.

From Vík, the tour passes Mýrdalssandur and Skeiðarársandur flood plains towards Skaftafell National Park. Between the sand flats we cross Eldhraun, the largest mass of lava that has flowed on earth in historical times. From Skaftafell we reach Breiðkull Glacier and the Glacial Lagoon Jökulsárlón. Leaving Hornafjörður and ascending Almannaskarð, we drive through the magnificent Eastern fjords to Egilsstaðir. Next there is the empty vastness of the highland desert plateau towards Námaskarð, Krafla and the Lake Mývatn area. We explore natural attractions of the area, including the salmon river Laxá, the pseudocraters near Skútustaðir and the lava formations of Dimmuborgir, before making a stop at Goðafoss Waterfall. We go through Akureyri on the way to Sauðárkrókur.

After we experience an Icelandic horse show we visit the Glaumbær folk museum, with coffee and homemade Icelandic pancakes. The Holtavörðuheiði plateau is traversed to Borgarfjörður. We visit Hraunfossar waterfall, the historic Reykholt and Deildartunguhver, Europe's most productive hot spring. Our route extends to Thingvellir National Park, the ancient site of parliament. We explore Gullfoss Waterfall and the Geysir field of hot springs, continuing to the Blue Lagoon for a refreshing bathe before returning to Reykjavik in the afternoon.
