8 day fly-drive holiday tour around Northern Iceland
with optional activities
This
fly-drive holiday explores Northern Iceland driving
north from Reykjavik in the southwest and visiting
all the main attractions that the north can offer.
Accommodation is with FossHotel, a chain of 11 Tourist
Class Hotels situated around Iceland, ranging from
Summer Hotels, used as schools during the Winter,
to 3 Star properties. Accommodation will be offered
in the area mentioned at a FossHotel or similar accommodation.
Note:
It might not be possible at all times, to visit sights
or to take part in all of the optional activities
mentioned. These itineraries are only suggestions
and not a full and detailed description of all attractions
available en-route. A good guide book is essential
when touring Iceland.

Fly
UK/Iceland.
( Note: Flights
from London Heathrow based on 'Evening Special'
departures.
Departing 2110/ Arriving 2310).
Collect car hire on arrival at Keflavik International
Airport. Overnight Reykjavik: FossHotel or similar.

2
|
SKAGAFJORDUR
DISTRICT
Depart Reykjavik by way of Route 1, through the
lush farmlands of the Borgarfjordur
District, north to Skagafjordur,
saga country, a district particularly well known
for the Icelandic horse. En-route we recommend you
drive around the Vatnsnes
Peninsula and walk to the seal colony at
Hindisvik. The next
two nights will be spent in this region. Overnight
Saudarkrokur: FossHotel Aning or similar.
Optional
Activities: River-Rafting. Horse-Riding. Golf. Fishing.

SKAGAFJORDUR
DISTRICT
Spend the day exploring this northern region. We
recommend you drive to Siglufjordur
the capital of Herring Fishing, stopping en-route
at the historic sites of Holar
with a visit to the local folk museum and turf farm
at Glaumbaer. For those
who crave excitement then river rafting on the rivers
Jokulsa Vestari, Jokulsa Austari and Hjaltadalsa
or Kolka is the answer. |

NORTHERN
REGION
Driving Route 1, along Iceland's northern shores
to Akureyri, known
as the 'Capital of the North', continuing on to
Godafoss - the Waterfall
of the Gods, before arriving at your destination
in the North where you will stay for the next three
nights. Overnight: FossHotel at Laugar or Husavik. |

NORTHERN REGION
Spend the whole day exploring the magnificence
of Lake Myvatn visit
the hot springs at Namaskard,
the lava fields at Krafla and the pseudo craters
at Skutustadir -
a region full of natural wonders and a paradise
for bird watchers.

NORTHERN
REGION
We recommend a 3 Hour Whale Watching Boat Trip from
Husavik Harbour along
with a visit to the Whale museum. Alternatively
during the period mid June - August, you could explore
the Tjornes Peninsula
and Asbyrgi, the horse-shoe
shaped canyon, along with Dettifoss
- Europe's mightiest waterfall mid June - August
[Note: 4WD necessary].

7 |
REYKJAVIK
Leisurely drive back to Reykjavik by Route 1. Alternatively
from mid Jun - August return by the 'Kjolur'
Highland Interior Route [Note: 4WD necessary] .
Overnight Reykjavik: FossHotel or similar.
Optional
Activities:
Bathing in the Blue Lagoon.
Whale Watching Boat Safari from Reykjavik Harbour.
