Suggested Itinerary
|
| Day 1 |
Arrive Ulaanbaatar.
This morning, upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar's Railway
Station, you will be met and transferred to the
Palace Hotel. After some rest in the hotel, city
tour. Zaisan Memorial. This vantage point offers
the best views of Ulaanbaatar, which sprawls out
along the banks of the Tuul river. Moving on, we
visit Gandan Monastery, the most important Monastery
in Mongolia and a spectacular sight. With over 150
monks in residence and numerous temples the Monastery
is a must see for visitors to the city. The brief
tour ends with a visit to the Natural History Museum,
which houses numerous exhibits on the geography,
flora and fauna of Mongolia. The best exhibit however,
are the two complete dinosaur excavated from the
Gobi. (L,D) |
| Day 2 |
Ulaanbaatar-Middle Gobi
(270km) .Today take a 270 km drive south
from Ulaanbaatar into the Middle Gobi or Dundgov
region. Leaving Ulaanbaatar one receives a first
real glimpse of the vast Mongolian countryside and
throughout the day the landscape becomes more parched
and rocky as we push further into the enchanting
desert regions. The night will be spent in Middle
gobi Ger Camp. (B,L,D) |
| Day 3/4 |
South Gobi (360km).
Today we drive 360 km further south through stunning
landscapes into the heart of the Gobi desert, before
arriving at the Khan Bogd Ger Camp. From the camp
we are exploring the fascinating sight of Yoliin
am canyon in the late afternoon and visit to a local
camel breeding family. Two nights on ger camp. (B,L,D) |
| Day 5 |
Saikan Ovoo (240km).
Today drive 240 km North-West to a Ger camp in
Ovoo, slowly leaving the harsh desert interior
as we start entering classic steppe. We are having
an excursion to Bayanzag claming cliffs and Moltsog
els sand dunes enroute. (B,L,D)

| Day 6 |
Karakorum (300km).
Arrive at the ancient capital of Karakorum, passing
through the Administrative town of Arvaikheer
and the spring-town of Khujirt along the way.
Karakorum, the building of which was ordered by
Chingis Khaan in 1220 contains the Erdene Zuu
monastery and is inside a massive walled compound.
Visit to Erdenezuu Monastery in the late afternoon
and overnight in Anar tourist camp. (B,L,D)

| Day 7 |
Karakorum-Ulaanbaatar (365km).
Today head east along good roads to Ulaanbaatar,
leaving the countryside on our final full day
of the tour. In the evening we enjoy a performance
of traditional music by the Mongolian Folk Ensemble.

Depart Ulaanbaatar.
Transfer to the train station and leave Ulaanbaatar.
