Suggested Itinerary
|
| Day 1 |
Arrive Ulaanbaatar
and transfer to the Bayangol Hotel. Enjoy a brief
afternoon city tour before returning to this centrally
located hotel. |
| Day 2 |
In the morning transfer to the airport for the
flight to Khovd, the
major industrial centre of Western Mongolia and
capital of the Khovd Aimag. Upon arrival transfer
by jeep for the 3 and a half hour journey to the
Namarjaa Valley on
the Southern slopes of Tsamgarav Mountain. The valley
affords stunning views of the cattle and ger's of
the local nomadic peoples. Upon arrival at our campsite
enjoy a ready prepared meal. |
| Day 3 |
Today we ride our horses 25km along the Hongio
river valley, where we will camp. The ride will
impress further views of the 4202m Tsambagarav
Mountain, and en route a local herders family
can be visited. |
| Day 4 |
Today we continue our horse trek to Doroo
Nuur, one of the most beautiful lakes in
Western Mongolia, located on the border of the
Bayan Olgii and Khovd provinces. The journey will
be approximately 35km.

| Day 5 |
Today we ride along the picturesque high ridges
of of the Huh Seriin Nuuruu
national park, towards Deluun
soum. The journey will be approximately
40km.

| Day 6 |
Today ride westwards to the Chihertei
river and canyon. En route visit a Kazakh
family which uses eagles for hunting. The journey
will be approximately 35km.

| Day 7 |
Today we ride Southward to Ulaagchin
where we spend the night at an altitude of approximately
2500m. The total days riding distance will be approximately
30km. |

Day 8
|
Today ride approximately 40km over the green
plateau of the Alati
mountain range and arrive in the Ulagchiin
canyon. In the afternoon we continue along
the high Altai ridges and arrive in Jargalant,
near the Chinese border.

| Day 9 |
Today we arrive in the small settlement of Sunhul,
a mostly Kazakh area, with a small Uriankhai population.
Depsite Mongolians fame for their hospitality Uriankhais
are famous for their hospitality amongst the Mongolians
themselves, and our the family visit should be a
particularly interesting stop. |
| Day 10 |
Today we will arrive at the beautiful Sunkhul
lake which is surrounded by Uriankhai and
Kazakh gers with various herds dotted along the
valley. There will be ample opportunity to witness
nomadic life, and due to the time of the season
it is possible we will be witness to nomadic families
loading their gers and belongings for the move to
the autumn pastures. We will also have views of
Monkh Khairkhan Mountain,
the second highest mountain in Mongolia. |
| Day 11 |
Today, our last day on horse, we will continue
the ride towards Ih
Ulaan (Great Red) mountain pass, one of the
highest road passes in Mongolia. En-route we will
pass the highest lake in Mongolia. |
| Day 12 |
Today we say goodbye to our horses after nine
days of riding and head to the famous Gurvan
Senkher cave, where we will spend the night
in a specially prepared ger (see picture of gers
above). |
| Day 13 |
After breakfast we explore two chambers of the
most famous cave in Mongolia and then continue the
drive to Chandmani Soum,
on the eastern slopes of the picturesque Jargalant
mountain. Locals are famous for their ability of
singing Hoomii, traditional Mongolian throat singing.
Overnight in tented camping. |
| Day 14 |
Today drive along the shore of Har
Us lake, the second largest freshwater lake
in Mongolia. En route visit a bird sanctuary, before
arriving in Khovd and
enjoy a tour of the city. Overnight in the Buyant
Hotel. |
| Day 15 |
Today we depart to Khovd
airport for the flight back to Ulaanbaatar.
Upon arrival transfer to the Bayangol Hotel for
a well earnt rest. |
| Day 16 |
Today enjoy a day relaxing in Ulaanbaatar,
giving time to enjoy a spot of shopping, dining
out or visiting one of the capital's interesting
museums. Overnight at the Bayangol hotel. |
| Da 17 |
Transfer to the airport for the flight home |
