Enjoy a full day tour of Yangon. Visit the Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda, Little India and Chinatown to discover a colourful cacophony of restaurants, temples and markets. Browse through the stalls and shops at Bogyoke Market and after lunch continue to the Shwedagon Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. The origin of the pagoda is unclear, legend has it that the original structure was built 2,500 years ago then renovated several times, taking its current shape in the 15th century. Tour the complex with the option to enjoy dinner in the city before returning to the Chatrium Hotel. (B,L)

Fly to Mandalay and begin a sightseeing tour of Mandalay. Visit Mahamuni Pagoda, home to one of the country’s most revered Buddha images and tour traditional workshops to learn more about the city’s well respected cottage industries. In the afternoon, visit Kuthodaw Pagoda, whose 729 marble stone slabs of Buddhist scriptures have earned it the title of the 'World’s Biggest Book'. Continue to Shwenandaw Monastery, a grand teak building known for its exquisite woodcarving. Finally head to the top of Mandalay Hill as the sun begins to set to enjoy magnificent views of the city and Irrawaddy River. Overnight at your hotel in Mandalay. (B,L)

Travel around Mandalay to explore the former capitals of Sagaing, Ava and Amarapura. Sagaing Hill, covered with 600 white-painted pagodas and monasteries, is widely regarded as the religious centre of Myanmar. Move onto Ava, the capital from 14th to 18th centuries, and enjoy a horse and cart ride around the area visiting the old wooden Bagaya Monastery and the remains of the Royal Palace and Fort. After lunch in Ava visit Amarapura, a former capital whose name means ‘City of Immortality’. Visit Mahagandayon monastery, where over one-thousand monks reside and continue to U Bein Bridge for a walk along this 200 year-old teak bridge - at 1200 metres it is the world’s longest teak span bridge. Enjoy a stroll across the bridge and the fabulous views of the surrounding farms and streams. Overnight at your hotel in Mandalay. (B,L)

Today embark on an all-day cruise along the Irrawaddy River heading towards Bagan.This is a fantastic way to watch river life pass by. Lunch will be served onboard. Transfer to your hotel and overnight in Bagan. (B,L)

Spend the day visiting the temple complex. Visit Thagyar Pone Temple, a temple with spectacular views over the surrounding plains, and continue onto the Ananda Temple. Visit Myinkaba Village and Gubyaukgyi Temple, noted for the beautiful mural paintings on its inner walls and well-preserved plaster carvings. Explore Manuha Temple and Nan Paya Temple, two smaller temples with attractive statues and stone work and visit workshops to see the production of lacquer ware and wood crafts. In the afternoon board a private river boat and set off on a cruise on the Irrawaddy River. Stop at Sae Lan village and enjoy a stroll before continuing on to Kyauk Gu U Min to explore a temple. Cruise back to Bagan and return to the hotel. (B,L)

This morning head to the colourful market at Nyaung Oo which is a magnet for locals visiting to buy and sell goods. Continue driving towards Mt Popa. En-route stop at a small village to learn about the process of making treats from the juice of the palm tree and enjoy lunch in the shade of the toddy palms. End the journey at Mt Popa and the volcanic plug of Taung Kalat, a region which played an important role in Myanmar culture. Climb to the top of the stairs and enjoy impressive views over the Myingyan Plains. Spend the night in Popa Mountain Resort. (B,L)

Leave Mt Popa and embark on a drive to Shan State through flat plains and rolling hills. Stops will be made en-route for photos or village visits and to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. After a journey of around six hours reach Kalaw. Once a British hill station, this charming town is surrounded by lush green hills dotted with hill tribe villages. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure, or explore the small town on foot. Overnight at your hotel in Pindaya. (B,L,D)

Enjoy a visit to Kalaw’s morning market, a colourful mix of produce and local crafts - various hill tribe people may be at the market. Move onto Pindaya and the famous Pindaya Caves which consists of many chambers filled with hundreds of Buddha statues. After lunch visit a local workshop manufacturing paper umbrellas before checking into the Inle Inn Pindaya Hotel (or similar) for an overnight stay. Spend some time exploring Pindaya at leisure and enjoy dinner at the hotel. (B,L,D)

Depart Pindaya and head to Nyaung Shwe, a small town on the northern tip of Inle Lake. Enjoy a sightseeing cruise on a long tail boat - pass villages built on stilts over the water, inhabited by the local Intha people. Observe the leg-rowing fishermen and see their floating gardens anchored to the lake bed with bamboo poles. After lunch visit the Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, which houses dozens of Shan Buddha Images. Continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, visit the weaving village of Inpawkhone and a cheroot factory, where typical Burmese cigars are rolled by hand. In the late afternoon check into the Inle Resort. This morning board the long-tail boat again and take a trip out to the morning market. This daily market attracts people from all over the lake’s shores, there will be time to wander amid the stalls where the guide will explain the local produce and goods for sale. Continue to In Dein and explore the area on foot - stroll around the village and wander through the beautiful Alaung Sitthou area with its picturesque stupas and magnificent views of the lake. Today is at leisure in Inle Lake, there are a range of optional activities that can be booked (please advise at time of booking): OPTION A: Prepare your lunch with a local family - Join a local Inthar family in their kitchen to cook local dishes then sit on the floor at a round table and dine in the local way OPTION B: Balloon Experience Over Inle - Lift off to explore the Inthar’s stilted homes, fisherman taking to the lake, farmers tending their floating gardens and the incomparable mountain and lake scenery. Depart Inle and make the short drive to Heho Airport for the flight to Yangon. On arrival in Yangon, transfer to Insein township and explore the local fresh market. Board the local 'circle train' which travels through various Yangon neighbourhoods on the outskirts of the city providing a unique opportunity to observe the life of local Burmese people. Alight and transfer to the hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (B)

This morning discover bustling Yangon city on a walking tour of the historic downtown area. This part of the city is dense with colonial era buildings, many of which appear on the Yangon City Heritage List. Highlights include City Hall and the former Minister's office where General Aung San was assassinated. Also visit Sule Paya and Botataung Pagoda. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant before the remainder of the day is free to explore further or simply relax at the hotel. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner as a group. (B,L,D)
