10 Day Itinerary
DAY 1
BEIJING
Arrive Beijing and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 2
BEIJING TO LHASA
Full day tour of Beijing including the famous sites of Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Summer Palace. Lunch is included. Evening transfer to rail station to board the remarkable train to Lhasa.
DAY 3
ON TRAIN
On train passing Xian and heading west through Ganzu and Lanzhou, then northwest into Qinghai Province on Tibet’s north-eastern border.
DAY 4
LHASA
Arrive Lhasa and transfer to hotel for 4 nights.
DAY 5
LHASA
Full day sightseeing tour to include the imposing Potala Palace, former residence of the Dalai Lama, which dominates Lhasa’s skyline above the Lhasa Valley. After lunch visit Drepung Monastery, situated at the base of the Gambo Utse Mountain. On the way back to the capital there will be an opportunity to wander along Lhasa’s busiest market in Barkhor Street.
DAY 6
LHASA
Today visit Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet, where pilgrims come from all over the country to prostrate themselves at Tibet’s holiest of temples. Your next stop will be at a typical Tibetan hospital to learn about the ancient methods of treatment, still in practice today. After lunch, visit Sera Monastery followed by a chance to attend the daily debating ritual, where monks energetically hone their skills at interpreting and challenging Buddhist scriptures.
DAY 7
LHASA TO SHIGATSE
Travel by road over the rugged terrain to the stunning Yamdrok Lake, where there will be a break to take in the landscape over a picnic lunch. Continue on by road to Shigatse, Tibet’s second largest city. Transfer to hotel for 2 nights.
DAY 8
SHIGATSE
Today’s sightseeing includes a short drive to the ancient Tashilunpo Monastery, followed by lunch in a local restaurant and a visit to a market.
DAY 9
SHIGATSE TO BEIJING VIA LHASA
Drive to Lhasa Airport for flight to Beijing. On arrival transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 10
DEPART BEIJING
Transfer to airport or railway for onward connections.
