Greenland Wilderness Cruise

Set sail on MS Fram and discover the Arctic North West of Greenland on this remote journey past deep fjords, towering mountains and tiny, coast-clinging fishing villages. Stop at small settlements rarely visited by tourists for a privileged insight into the traditional lives of local people who survive by fishing and hunting. When conditions allow, get up-close to the region’s giant icebergs on a kayaking adventure.

Tour Itinerary

DAY 1
UK to Copenhagen
UK to Copenhagen
Fly to Denmark’s capital and perhaps take an optional three hour Copenhagen city tour with canal cruise.
DAY 2
Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq
Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq
Transfer to Copenhagen Airport for the four hour flight to Kangerlussuaq. Take an off-road excursion to the immense inland Ice Cap before boarding the M/S Fram and setting course towards Disko Bay. (B,L,D)
DAY 3
North West Greenland
North West Greenland
Discover North-West Greenland, the land of the midnight sun and the dog-sleds. The Disko Bay area offers amazing Arctic experiences with giant icebergs, seas and fjords that offer fantastic sailings with wildlife and spectacular landscapes to see. The colourful villages cling to rough, rocky hills at the foot of the mountains surrounding the inland ice. DAY 4
Sisimiut
Sisimiut
Sail towards Sisimiut, the second largest town in Greenland, where you may visit the Sisimiut Museum, housed in beautiful old buildings originating from the colonial period. (B,L,D)

Qeqertarsuaq & Qasiguiannguit
Qeqertarsuaq & Qasiguiannguit
Qeqertarsuaq is situated on the old volcanic island of Disko. Join the Expedition Team for a guided walk to see endemic flora and spectacular views of huge icebergs stranded in the shallow waters. Qasigiannguit, also called The Pearl of Disko Bay, is the second oldest town in Greenland. Perhaps opt for a walking tour including entrance to the museums and a visit to the church for a performance by the local choir. (B,L,D)
DAY 6
Uummannaq
Uummannaq
Uummannaq is scenically situated at the foot of the 1,170-metre tall mountain, and has a unique charm with its husky yards and colourful marina. Take a hike and discover rich flora and superb sea views towards Nuussuaq Peninsula. (B,L,D)
DAY 7
Ukkusissat & Illorsuit
Ukkusissat & Illorsuit
Ukkusissat has been mined by Inuit craftsmen for centuries. Locals await the ship at the pier for a welcome with song and dance. Stroll around the village at leisure or drop in to the community house for homemade cake and local crafts. Illorsuit is a traditional hunting and fishing community and is rarely visited by tourists, giving a special insight into village life. (B,L,D)
DAY 8
Upernavik
Upernavik
Sail to Upernavik “the place of spring”, where for centuries the locals have migrated in spring to take advantage of the rich hunting grounds. The town has approximately 1100 inhabitant and, as all is of small size, everything is in walking distance. Well worth a visit is the northernmost open air museum. (B,L,D)
DAY 9
Qullissat & Eqip Sermia
Qullissat & Eqip Sermia
Eqip Sermia Glacier has a five kilometre terminus which calves icebergs into the open ocean. Whilst ashore, enjoy spectacular views towards the glacier. (B,L,D)
DAY 10
Ilulissat
Ilulissat
Visit Ilulissat, known as the Town of Icebergs and inscribed in 2004 to the UNESCO World Heritage List., where enormous stacks of ice run aground at the mouth of the fjord. (B,L,D)
DAY 11
Itilleq
Itilleq
Itilleq village is situated in a hollow, majestically surrounded by high mountains and glaciers. Accept an invitation for kaffemik – coffee and cake at local home. (B,L,D)
DAY 12
Copenhagen to UK
Copenhagen to UK
End the voyage in Kangerlussuaq and fly back to Copenhagen. Return to the UK or ask a Travel Specialist about Copenhagen stopovers. (B)
