DAY 1

Arrive Ulaanbaatar and transfer to your hotel for an early check-in. In the afternoon, embark on a city tour of the Mongolian capital. Visit Genghis Khan Square and the surrounding buildings of Parliament House, the State Opera & Ballet Theatre, Cultural Palace and the House of City Council. Take a tour of the National Museum of Mongolian History and visit Gandan Monastery, the largest functioning Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. (B)

ULAANBAATAR TO KHARKHORIN
ULAANBAATAR TO KHARKHORIN
Admire majestic landscapes of the steppe, river valleys and rolling hills during the drive to Kharkhorin, ancient Capital of the Great Mongolian Empire. The city, which was founded in the Valley of the Orkhon river in 1220, was the capital city of the Empire until Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, moved the capital status to Beijing during the Yuan Dynasty. Explore the beautifully preserved and oldest surviving Buddhist Monastery at Erdenezuu and admire the large collection of Buddhist paintings and Mongolian and Tibetan artifacts. KHARKHORIN TO GOBI DESERT
KHARKHORIN TO GOBI DESERT
Travel to Saihan-Ovoo in the Middle Gobi area and enjoy a traditional Mongolian lunch with a Nomadic family. Visit the ruins of Ongi Monastery which was founded in 1660 and housed 30 temples, four large Buddhist universities and over 1,000 monks at a time. Overnight at the Ongiin Nuuts Ger camp. (B,L,D)

BAYANZANG
BAYANZANG
After breakfast, continue further into the Gobi Desert and explore the ancient rock formation of the red Bayanzag Cliffs, which contain vast amounts of dinosaur fossils and eggs. Trek around the surrounding Saxual tree forest area before spending the night at the Goviin Naran Ger camp. (B,L,D)
DAY 5
YOL VALLEY
YOL VALLEY
Travel through the majestic Gobi Gurvan Saikhan national park, which stretches 380km from east to west and 80km from north to south. Discover the unusual river that flows through Zuun Saikhan Mountains and ends as a frozen lake in the middle of the Gobi desert. Explore the Fauna and Flora Museum. Overnight at Goviin Naran Ger camp. (B,L,D)
DAY 6
BAGA GAZRIIN CHULUU
BAGA GAZRIIN CHULUU
Today drive north to Middle Gobi province (400 km), through the endless green grassland and stunning natural scenery. En route, meet the nomads on the steppe with their hordes of sheep, cattle or horses and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the late afternoon, reach Baga Gazriin Chuluu. Overnight at the Erdene Ukhaa Ger Camp (B,L,D)
DAY 7
MIDDLE GOBI TO ULAANBAATAR
MIDDLE GOBI TO ULAANBAATAR
Continue to the north through the Chuluu Basalt and Granite Mountains (200 km) and reach Ulaanbaatar in the afternoon. Perhaps opt for an optional guided shopping tour to cashmere and antique shops and to the Central Department Store. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at restaurant “Modern Nomads” with traditional Mongolian cuisine. Overnight at your hotel in Ulaanbaatar. (B,D)
DAY 8
DEPART ULAANBAATAR
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight back to the UK. (B)
