Fly UK/Iceland. On arrival Airport Transfer arranged by the ‘Flybus’ Shuttle from Keflavik international Airport to your overnight accommodation. Overnight Reykjavik.
Flight by Air Iceland from Reykjavik to Akureyri. Collect hired Vehicle on arrival at Akureyri Airport before proceeding to explore the town of Akureyri known as the ‘Capital of North’ and surroundings. Visit Go∂afoss, the waterfall of the Gods en-route to Húsavík . We recommend a whale watching cruise from and a visit to the unique Whale Museum. Drive around Tjörnes Peninsula to Hljó∂aklettar for an enjoyable walk before you visit Ásbyrgi and Dettifoss (mid June – August) Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Overnight Akureyri. Optional Activity: Whale Watching Boat Trip from Husavik Harbour.
Explore the natural wonders of Lake Mývatn, the hot springs at Námaskarð and the lava fields at Krafla. We recommend the unique Mývatn Nature Baths, Iceland’s newest geothermal spa before continuing to the East Fjords. Overnight Egilsstadir area. Optional Activity: Bathing in Mývatn Nature Baths.
Enjoy the dramatic fjord landscape and fishing villages of the East Fjords before reaching the vast Vatnajokull glacier which dominates this region, nowhere else can you enjoy such a stunning panorama of ice. Snowmobile tours are available from Joklasel accessible by 4WD only. However, organised tours are available from May-September. Overnight Hofn area.
Many of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders await you today. A ‘must see’ for travellers between Hofn and Skaftafell is the glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon full of icebergs calved from the glacier Breidamerkurjokull. Boat trips are also possible, departing from the dock whenever a willing boatload is waiting. Explore Skaftafell National Park its stunning scenery may well be unmatched anywhere in Iceland. Continue along the south coast heading for Iceland’s ‘Golden Circle’. Drive to the magnificent Gullfoss Waterfall and Geyir Hot Spring area with it’s spouting geyser ‘Strokkur’. Explore the stunningly beautiful Thingvellir National Park with it’s wealth of natural attractions, flanked by snow-covered peaks. Visit the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi where abundant geothermal energy is used for growing fruits, vegetables and flowers. Overnight Selfoss area.
Enjoy a day at leisure in Iceland’s Capital for sightseeing or shopping. Another option would be to explore the Reykjanes Peninsula and visit the famous Blue Lagoon where you can relax and enjoy a bathe in the bright blue mineral rich geothermal heated waters. Visit the picturesque fishing village of Grindavik and the geothermal area of Krisuvik with its steamholes and bubbling mud pools. Overnight Reykjavik.
