8 Day Itinerary
DAY 1
Fly UK/Iceland. Collect hire vehicle before proceed to your overnight accommodation in Iceland’s Capital – Reykjavik. Overnight Reykjavik: FossHotel or similar.
DAY 2
Drive Route 1 North via Hvalfjordur Fjord, and the lush farmlands of the Borgarfjordur District, continuing to your overnight accommodation in North Iceland where you will spend the next three nights. Overnight Dalvik: Fosshotel or similar.
DAY 3
Visit the island of Hrisey or enjoy an optional whale watching cruise in Eyjafjordur fjord. There are also many hiking trails in
this area.
DAY 4
Drive to Siglufjordur, the herring fishing capital of Iceland and visit the historic sites of Holar.
DAY 5
Visit Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland, which boasts several interesting museums and a delightful city
Center, stopping at Gođafoss, the “waterfall of the gods”. Drive around Tjornes peninsula and Europe’s most powerful waterfall ’Dettifoss’ (Mid June – August). Visit the local Whale Museum at Husavik and learn about the world’s largest mammals before continuing to your overnight accommodation where you will spend the next two nights. From May – September Whale Watching boat trips operate daily from Husavik Harbour Overnight Husavik/Laugar: Fosshotel or similar.
DAY 6
Explore the magnificence of the Lake Myvatn region. Visit the hot springs at Namaskard, the lava fields at Krafla and the pseudo craters at Skutustadir – a region full of natural wonders and a paradise for bird watchers. Don’t miss the unique Myvatn Nature Baths, Iceland’s newest geothermal spa before returning to your accommodation.
DAY 7
Return to Reykjavik either by way of the Ring Road in West Iceland or depending on your car and season, through the central
highlands by way of the ‘Kjolur’ interior route. Overnight Reykjavik: FossHotel or similar.
DAY 8
Return hire vehicle back to Keflavik International Airport to connect with your return flight Iceland/UK.
