A visit to the former home of Kaysone Phomvihane, the lead figure in Laotian politics from 1955 – 1992 is fascinating. In the suburbs of Vientiane this humble home, a bungalow on an old US military complex, is a great contrast to the luxuries that many world leaders enjoy, and gives a great insight into the little-known history of Laos.
