Experience some of the world’s most remote and pristine national parks on this voyage from Spitsbergen to Iceland. Board MS Fram and tack south along the coastline of the largest and least visited national park on Earth – North East Greenland National Park – with its untouched landscape of deep fjords and towering mountains and experience life in Greenland’s most isolated town, where trappers survive only by hunting and fishing.

Fly to Longyearbyen and overnight in a local hotel.

Board the M/S Fram and begin the expedition. On the first evening learn about the ship and get the latest weather and ice situation prognosis from the Expedition Leader. (B,L,D)
DAY 3
North West Spitsbergen National Park
North West Spitsbergen National Park
Discover the frozen landscapes of the NorthWest Corner, scattered with islands, fjords and beaches. Conditions permitting, visit Kongsfjorden, the largest fjord on the North West coast of Spitsbergen, and Ny Alesund, one of the world’s northernmost year- round communities, now an advanced High Arctic research station. At Sea
Cross the Fram Strait and spend cruising time listening to lectures on the area from the expedition team. (B,L,D)
DAY 5
North East Greenland National Park
North East Greenland National Park
Leave the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream and enter the cold water current that follows the coast of East Greenland, where ice provides potential Polar bear sightings. Explore the North East Greenland National Park, the largest national park on Earth at around 900,000km². (B,L,D) *From day 5 to 11 the itinerary will be introduced during daily briefings depending on weather conditions

Hit the coast of Greenland at similar latitude as Longyearbyen. The very isolated weather and research station, Danmarkshavn is one of the places you may visit – from then on you will tack your way south, within the boundaries of the largest national park on earth. (B,L,D)

Gaze at the mountains rising right out of the largest fjord systems on earth to an altitude of more than 2,500 meters above sea level. (B,L,D)

Enjoy Greenland wildlife and spot the Arctic fox, the musk oxen, the rare Arctic wolf and a wide variety of sea birds. (B,L,D)

Sail into fjords such as Keiser Franz Josef Fjord or Alpefjord and enjoy an experience of a lifetime - maybe even more so than the large Norwegian fjords you get a feeling of sailing in a maze with spectacular snow-capped peaks all around. (B,L,D)

Enjoy wilderness expeditions where you may also meet the Sirius Patrol – the Danish Navy maintains park supervision using traditional methods, mushing dogs. (B,L,D)

Myggbukta
Myggbukta
Today you may land to Myggbukta, where the legendary Governor of North East Greenland, Helge Ingstad, had his base. (B,L,D)
DAY 12
Ittoqqortoormiit
Ittoqqortoormiit
The most isolated town in Greenland, trappers living in Ittoqqortoormiit are the only people allowed to hunt within the National Park, and drying animal skins are often seen outside the houses. Explore the town, museum and church. (B,L,D)
DAY 13
Isafjordur
Isafjordur
Capital of Iceland’s Westfjords, Isafjordur was for centuries a major trading centre of the fish industry. Take a stroll and discover fine examples of timber houses built by wealthy foreign traders in the 18th century. (B,L,D)
DAY 14
Flateyri
Flateyri
A trading post since 1792, this small village is now popular with kayakers and sea anglers. Visit the old bookshop which has been turned into a museum documenting the fishing and whaling history of the village. (B,L,D)
DAY 15
Grundarfjordur
Grundarfjordur
Located on the northern coast of Snaefellsnes peninsula, the attractive town of Grundarfjordur is a wonderful example of a working fishing town. (B,L,D)
DAY 16
Reykjavik to UK
Reykjavik to UK
The expedition ends in the world’s northernmost capital. Take a flight back to the UK or ask a Regent Iceland Specialist about extending your holiday with a Reykjavik city break and discover the nearby waterfalls and geysers. (B)
