Nestled at the foot of the spectacular Tatra Mountains, Zakopane is the winter sports capital of Poland and is its most famous resort. During the winter, plentiful snow and challenging runs make for excellent skiing, while the summer months offer walkers mountain lakes, glacial valleys and waterfalls.

A town full of folklore and myths and bearing the legacy of Poland's artistic set from the 1930's, Zakopane attracts 3 million visitors a year. With its distinctive wooden architecture and colourful mountain traditions, the town itself is a worthy stopping point, but it is the splendid Tatra peaks, the mountain range on the border between Poland and Slovakia, that is the main highlight. Visitors come year-round to admire the dazzling natural beauty of the region's alpine lakes, flora and fauna.
