8 Day Itinerary

DAY 1

FLY TO LJUBLJANA
Fly to Ljubljana Brnik Airport and drive to Bled (34 kilometres). Check-in to hotel for 2 nights. There may be time to swim in the warm lake waters! (B)

DAY 2

LAKE BLED AND LAKE BOHINJ
Free day to walk around the emerald-green lake, visit the 11th century Bled Castle and take a pletna boat ride to the island in the middle of the lake. We also recommend a visit to Savica Waterfall and nearby Lake Bohinj, the beautiful glacier lake and quieter destination which will suit culture lovers, as there are plenty of museums and churches in the area. (B)

DAY 3

BLED TO PIRAN VIA POSTOJNA CAVE
Depart Bled for Postojna Cave - the 'must-see' for nature lovers (102 kilometres). On the way you can visit the Karst Cave or Predjama Castle, which is set in one of the most breathtaking locations halfway up a hillside in a cavern. Continue on to Piran (75 kilometres), a wonderful coastal town with its Venetian Gothic architecture and narrow alleys. Here, the fish is the freshest in Slovenia. Overnight in Piran. (Please note that Piran is almost a car free zone - so parking is in large car parks on the outskirts of the city, but you can drive to the hotel to unload your luggage). (B)

DAY 4

PIRAN TO PULA
Today take your time to drive to Pula (96 kilometres), where you can explore many places en route. Stop off in Porec with its Euphrasius Basilica and remarkable 6th-century Byzantine mosaics. Many people also stop off in Rovinj, which has a delightful old town full of narrow cobbled streets, before continuing to Pula. Overnight stay in Pula. (B)

DAY 5

PULA TO OPATIJA
The best way to explore Pula is on foot so leave the car at the hotel and visit Pula's enormous Roman Amphitheatre before continuing to Opatija (101 kilometres) You can stop off at Labin en route (44 kilometres), a charming medieval hilltop town with its steep and narrow streets and Baroque and Renaissance palazzi. Opatija so called 'Vienna on Sea' is packed full of Hapsburg villas and palaces. Take a stroll along the 12 kilometre beach front promenade. Overnight stay in Opatija. (B)

DAY 6

OPATIJA TO LJUBLJANA
Drive to Ljubljana (148 kilometres) after spending some time exploring inland Istria. Here, the scenery is mostly rolling agricultural hills and attractive medieval hilltop villages, rather reminiscent of Tuscany.
