Discover the imperial splendours of St Petersburg and the cosmopolitan buzz of Moscow before embarking on the journey of a lifetime on one of the world's longest and most diverse railway routes. Included on this Trans-Siberian and Trans-Mongolian railway tour is an extended stop off at the majestic Lake Baikal, the world's deepest lake and definitely also one of the most beautiful. Arrive Irkutsk, one of the oldest Siberian cities, located on the banks of the mighty Angara River and transfer to a hotel for breakfast. Transfer to Listvyanka and visit the the Taltsy open-air Museum of Wooden Architecture before continuing on to the hotel to check in for an overnight stay. Enjoy a walking tour of Listvyanka and a boat ride on Lake Baikal (snowbile or Troika sleighs in the winter) before visiting the Baikal Ecology Museum and the Chersky Stone. (B)

In the morning, transfer to Listvyanka pier for a ferry crossing to Port Baikal. Here, board the Krugobaikalski Express for an excursion along the Circumbaikal Railway to Irkutsk. Arrive Irkutsk and transfer to the hotel and check in for 1 night. (B)

City tour of Irkutsk including a visit to the Decemberists' Museum before transferring to the railway station for the train to Ulan Ude. (B)

Formerly a closed city for foreigners, it is now the capital of the Buryat Autonomous Republic and home to the world's largest Lenin's head statue! Buryatia is also the centre of Buddhism in Russia. Transfer back to Ulaanbaatar for a city tour including Gandan Monastery, Museum of Natural History, Bogd Khan Winter Palace, Zaisan Hill and Sukhbaatar Square. Transfer to the hotel and check in for 1 night.
