Follow the Great Silk Road and awake in the town of Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of Tamerlane. Tour the monumental memorials of the Mongol Prince and take a walk through this thriving regional town. Watch a folklore show and learn about traditions of this unique region. Travel overnight by private train to Bukhara and enjoy a wine tasting of famous Uzbek wines. (B,L,D)
Awake in Bukhara, Central Asia’s holiest city, located in the middle of the Kyzyl Kum desert. Take a walk through the old city admiring the Kaljan Minaret and the Labi-Hauz Ensemble and, in the evening, enjoy dinner in the courtyard of a Madrasah with musical accompaniment and local dances. Embark on a full day tour of Bukhara. Discover the main highlights of the city including the magnificent Mire-e-Arab Madrasah and the Samanid Museum. After lunch, discover the Fortress Ark, visit the Coronation Hall and the summer residence of the last Emir, an at the end of the day meet the Imam of Bukhara before continuing the journey by train to Khiva. Reach the historic city of Khiva, located in the Oasis of Khiva. Explore the mighty city walls with its gates and bastions, and visit the turquoise-tiled Kalta Minor Minaret. Enjoy lunch under the gold-embroidered ceilings of Isfandiyar Palace, the Summer Palace of the Emir. Overnight on a private train. (B,L,D)
Arrive in Samarkand, one of the most beautiful cities in the world during Tamerlane’s time. Visit Registan Square, the medieval commercial centre of Samarkand, and discover the impressive collection of Central Asian architecture. Spend time at Samarkand’s excavation sites of Afrosiab and the tombs of Shah-i-zinda (the living king). At the end of the day transfer to a local 4-star hotel in Samarkand for two nights. (B,L,D)
Today visit a silk carpet factory and an Uzbek craftsman's family to witness the manufacture of paper from mulberry bark. Continue to the enormous Bibi-Khanym Mosque, which was completely restored in 2007, and the Gur-E-Amir Mausoleum with its fluted azure dome. (B,D)
Spend the morning at leisure in Samarkand before transferring to the station to board the train for the final journey to Tashkent. On arrival in Tashkent transfer to a local 4-star hotel for an overnight stay. (B,L,D)
