Regent Holidays has
been organising travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway
since 1980 so we can offer expertise in planning
specialist group and tailor-made individual arrangements.
You can be sure that
come revolution, economic strife, the 'wrong kind
of snow' or 'leaves on the track' this railway will
run! An amazing feat of engineering links the west
to the east across mountains, pine forests, tundra,
vast Siberian plains and Mongolian deserts. The
truly 'Great Railway Journey of the World' stretches
9289 kilometres from Moscow to Vladivostok through
ten time zones and as many varied nationalities.
Seven days is a long
time to be on a train and the best way to make the
most of your journey (and have a shower!) is to
stop at Irkutsk in Siberia to visit Lake Baikal
and also at Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia,
to sample a little of the nomadic lifestyle of the
people.
Accommodation on the
train is basic but comfortable. Each compartment
has two or four bunks, space for luggage storage
and a small table. Hot water is always available
from the corridor samovar, and each carriage has
a small bathroom with a toilet and sink.
Restaurant car food
varies according to the country you are travelling
through. Start the journey with borsch, continue
with Mongolian mutton stew and finish with succulent
Peking duck.
Get to know your
carriage attendant! These people will be all-powerful
during the journey and make good allies. They clean
your compartment and the bathroom, tell you how
long the train will stop, lock the compartment whilst
you are eating, provide your bed linen and will
wake you when it is time to get off!
