Stop off in Irkutsk
Irkutsk, known as "The Paris of Siberia", is the most popular stop off on the Trans-Siberian for good reason. The city is a perfect blend of Siberian wooden architecture and wide Soviet-style streets, as well as an excellent starting point to explore Lake Baikal and the surrounding area.

Additional charge to main itinerary price:
Per person twin-share £250
Single room suppliment £90
Sole traveller £450

Stop off in Listvyanka
Nearly every traveller on the Trans-Siberian stops off in the tiny village of Listvyanka, as this is the most accessible place to see Lake Baikal. The village is located around 70 kilometres from Irkutsk on the mouth of the Ankara River. Stretching along one main strett which runs adjacent to the shores of Lake Baikal, there are some interesting sights to see including Saint Nicolas Church. During the summer months you can take the hydrofoil across the lake or visit the Seal Aquarium to glimpse the rare Baikal Nerpa (freshwater seal) or browse at the market in the main square where you can sample delicious Baikal fish like the Omul - salted, smoked, or baked.

We can book home-stays in Listvyanka, where you will have one room in a house or apartment and share the kitchen living room and bathroom with the family. This is a great way to meet local people and experience the culture instead of just seeing it. A delicious home cooked breakfast is included but we can book half board as well.

What class of travel to take
There are three types of carriages, please note that Regent Holidays only book second and first class.

The cheapest option is the platzcart, which is a common sleeping carriage with eight open compartments. Each compartment has four or six sleeping places as well as sleeping places down the carriage side. These are noisy and security can be an issue, which is why we do not book these tickets.

Cupe is referred to as second class and abbreviated "K" on the ticket. There are 8 compartments in each carriage. In each compartment there are 4 sleeping places and space for your luggage.

The most expensive option is the sleeping wagon (spalny vagon or lux) which we call first class. Like the second class there are 8 compartments in each carriage but each compartment has only 2 sleeping places therefore more spacious.

International Flights

These are not included as we tailor-make our Trans-Siberian quote for each client. Please talk to us about your flight requirements as we can book discounted flight tickets on a variety of carriers into Moscow. For this itinerary we usually book Aeroflot but these tickets based on published fares and need to be purchased within 24 hours of the reservation being made.
