Iceland Family Holidays

Iceland Family Holidays

Our Iceland family holidays offer memorable experiences for both children and adults alike. With a huge variety of family friendly activities on offer, it is no surprise that many families return year after year.

Whether you’re relaxing on a geothermal beach in Reykjavik, horse riding in the beautiful countryside or just becoming captivated by Iceland’s own natural playground, a holiday in Iceland can be created with all of the family in mind. Discover Iceland's stunning natural beauty on a summer family fly-drive holiday, experience the northern lights together during the winter half-term break or explore the country's quirky capital on a family city break - where a whale watching excursion from Reykjavik's historic harbour is a must.

Some popular Iceland family holidays include:

Whale Watching
Iceland provides some of the best whale watching in the world, with more than 20 species being recorded in Icelandic waters, and an excursion from Reykjavík’s historic harbour can be enjoyed by the whole family. Depending on the season, it’s possible to see minke and humpback whales, whitebeaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and various sea birds such as puffins, gannets, guillemots, gulls, kittiwakes, arctic terns and many more. Prices start at £53. Children 0-6 years FREE Children 7-15 half price.

Horse Riding
The Icelandic horse can be traced right back to the settlement of the country in the 9th century and the breed has remained pure for over a thousand years. Today there are close to 80,000 horses in Iceland, known for their intelligence and good temperament. The Íshestar Riding Centre is set in beautiful countryside just outside the town of Hafnarfjörður, only 10 minutes’ drive from Reykjavík. Riders are provided with warm overalls, raingear, riding boots and helmets, and the knowledgeable Íshestar staff take pride in selecting horses to suit individual riders’ needs. Children aged 8-11 years travel half price.

Sea Angling
Unsurprisingly, one of the most popular foods in Iceland is fish, so why not take the chance to go out and catch your own dinner? A sea angling excursion from the downtown historic harbour is a fantastic way to not only view the coastline from the open seas, but also to stand in the shoes – or galoshes - of Iceland’s fishermen. Under the expert guidance of the skilled crew, cod, halibut, haddock, rockfish and Pollock are all frequent rewards. Before returning to shore after three hours at sea, the day’s catches are barbequed on board and served with potatoes for the freshest dining experience.

Superjeep Adventures
Some of Iceland’s most spectacular scenery can be found only a short drive away from Reykjavik. Join a Superjeep full day excursion and discover thundering waterfalls, powerful geysers and dramatic glaciers. In the winter months, no Reykjavik city break would be complete without n evening excursion in search of the northern lights. Children under 12 travel half price when travelling with two full paying adults.

Combine these days out with a tailor made family fly-drive holiday, where you can take the family on a tour of Iceland at your own leisure. Choose from a range of country or city hotels, or private lodges where you can see the northern lights dancing in the nights' sky.
