Arrive in Sao Miguel and transfer to the Apart hotel Antillia. Check in for 7 nights.
After breakfast embark on a city tour of Ponta Delgada by Tuk Tuk. Enjoy an exciting experience and fun way to get to know the city with its cobbled streets and unique architecture. Visit the square of Campo de Sao Francisco, where the main religious festivities of the island take place, the fortress of Sao Bras, built to defend the town and the island against the attacks of pirates and corsairs, once common in this region of the Atlantic Ocean.
Pass the City Gates and the Church of Sao Sebastiao before visiting the city garden, a garden populated by trees that impress with their monumental size and peculiar shape.
Today, embark on a great day of fun for the whole family travelling off-road in a 4 by 4 jeep. Tour the west of the island and visit the valley of Sete Cidades. One of the seven natural wonders of Portugal, the valley showcases the green and blue lakes which according to legend, were formed from the tears of a shepherd and a princess who shared a forbidden love. After lunch, continue on to Lagoa do Fogo (fire lake) and admire the fantastic view of the island at an altitude of 900 metres.
After breakfast sail out to the open sea to search for sperm whales and dolphins. The sperm whale, or cachalot, is the largest of the toothed whales and the largest toothed predator, and is a native of the Azores. This magnificent creature puts its head out of the water for a full eight minutes between dives, giving a great opportunity for everyone aboard to take some fantastic photos. Take this half day tour in either the morning or the afternoon.
After breakfast, travel to Quinta das Raiadas to see the farm animals. Make a stop at Escalvado Viewpoint and admire stunning views across the island. Enjoy a lesson in making local bread, handicrafts and how to prepare traditional Azorean food. Taste a variety of local cuisine including soup, drinks, cheese and marmalade.
After breakfast take a drive in a 4x4 jeep into the mountains, making a stop at the view point at Caloura. Continue on to Vila Franca which was the island's very first capital in the fifteenth century. Admire the historical architecture before travelling to the beautiful Furnas valley, where a visit to the lake with it's volcanic hot springs are awe inspiring. Enjoy an Azorean lunch, cooked from the ground's natural hot vapours, before an afternoon visit to the botanical gardens. Swim in a natural hot water pool before heading north for a tour of a tea plantation with plenty of photo stops en route.
