After exploring Ulaanbaatar, a busting capital city still littered with Soviet-era relics, this tour sets off into the countryside to introduce travellers to the vast open landscapes that make up the iconic image of Mongolia. After flying to the Gobi, wander through the rocky gorges of Yoliin Am Valley before reaching the shifting sands of the Gobi Desert, where you'll camp in ger tents at the foot of the immense Khongor Sand Dunes, later exploring them on foot and by camel. After searching for fossils at the Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs, continue to discover ancient monasteries set in greener landscapes and spend a night in Kharkorin city, a former Mongul capital.

This tour includes a visit to the Erdenzuu Monastery (Mongolia's oldest monastery), stops for an evening soak in natural hot springs, camps on the shores of stunning lakes and roams through two national parks. Get under the skin of traditional Mongolian culture by spending evenings with remote families in your ger camps and taking time to get to know the nomadic reindeer herders of Khuvsgul Lake National Park.
