Tour Itinerary
Fly directly from Keflavík International Airport in Iceland to the town of Ilulissat. During your flight, enjoy incredible views of the Inland Ice Cap which covers roughly 80% of the surface of Greenland. Transfer to the Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat and meet your guide, who will give you more information on your pre-booked excursions. Enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)
Optional Excursion: Walk to Sermermiut Settlement
Witness beautiful icebergs at the old settlement of Sermermiut. For 4,000 years, different Inuit cultures lived in the settlement and today you can still see many remains that indicate their presence, including turf hut ruins. Listen to the guide’s stories about Inuit life and traditions before the Europeans came to Greenland.
Today, explore Ilulissat on your own. We recommend enjoying a coffee break at 'Kællingekløften' for a beautiful view of the Ice Fjord. In Ilulissat, the Midnight Sun is present from May to July, but August also enjoys very bright nights, ideal for enjoying boat trips out to the icebergs. (B)
Optional Excursion: Iceberg Sightseeing Cruise
This evening, sail among the icebergs in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Ice Fjord under the magical light. This incredible area is a ‘showroom’ of gigantic icebergs, which sometimes tower more than 100 meters above the water's surface.
Today, you'll explore Ilulissat on your own. Visit the local supermarket for goodies to bring back, or pick up traditional souvenirs at Shop Siku in the basement of Hotel Hvide Falk. (B)
Optional Excursion: Eqi Glacier Boat Trip
Only few places in Greenland are as beautiful as the Eqi Glacier. Spend two hours exploring the area onboard an ice-secured boat and experience huge pieces breaking off during ice calving. The route goes north along the coast passing Bredebugt, the settlement of Oqaatsut and the big fiord system called Pakitsoq, where whales and seals are often spotted. Continue through the Ataa Strait, which is surrounded by mountains with bird life and waterfalls.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Iceland. (B)
