DAY 1

Arrive Reykjavik. Transfer to the hotel and check in for an overnight stay.
DAY 2
GOLDEN CIRCLE
GOLDEN CIRCLE

Awake in Reykjavik and embark on a coach excursion to Iceland’s most popular trio of natural wonders. Discover Thingvellir National Park where the North American and Eurasian continental plates drift apart, get up close to the powerful Gullfoss waterfall and see Strokkur geyser erupt twenty metres into the air. In the afternoon, travel along the scenic shores of Hvalfjordur fjord and reach your accommodation in Borgarnes. Overnight in Borgarnes. (B,D)
 

DAY 3
SNAEFELLSNES PENINSULA
SNAEFELLSNES PENINSULA

Start uncovering the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Enjoy the awe-inspiring natural landscapes of Snaefellsnes National Park, from blanketed lava fields and pebbled beaches to the impressive Snaefellsjokull glacier-volcano. Walk deep within a lava cave beneath Snaefellsjokull into a remote lava cube called Vatnshellir, located 35 metres underground. In the afternoon, catch the car ferry Baldur from Stykkishólmur to Brjánslækur in the West Fjords. On the 2,5 hour journey over Breiðafjörður Bay, pass the island of Flatey, which is inhabited only during the summertime. Overnight in Patreksfjörður area. (B,D)
 

DAY 4
BIRD CLIFF OF LATRABJARG
BIRD CLIFF OF LATRABJARG

Visit the folk and transport museum in Hnjótur and continue through a very remote and sparsely populated region to the bird cliffs of Látrabjarg. Take a walk in the wilderness to the top of the highest bird cliffs in Iceland and see puffins, razorbills, guillemots, fulmars, cormorants and kittiwakes. Overnight in Patreksfjörður area. (B,D)
 

DAY 5
WESTFJORDS
WESTFJORDS

Reach the majestic fjord Arnarfjörður, surrounded by high mountains, and unearth the unique waterfall Dynjandi with its seven levels of plunging water. Continue travelling along the southern shores of the West Fjords, and see its sheer cliffs, deep cut bays and narrow stretches of coastal lowland. Overnight in Breiðafjörður Bay area. (B,D) 
 

DAY 6
WEST ICELAND TO AKUREYRI
WEST ICELAND TO AKUREYRI

Set off to the Icelandic Northern capital Akureyri and, en route, visit a rather authentic replica of the homestead of Erik the Red in Haukadalur. Head north, stop at a local farm for lunch and a horse show and learn about the unique qualities of Iceland's special breed. Continue travelling through the fertile farmlands and fjord landscapes of Northwest Iceland and, in the evening, reach the town of Akureyri. Overnight in Akureyri. (B, L, D)
 

DAY 7
SIGLUFJORDUR
SIGLUFJORDUR

Today travel to Iceland’s northernmost town Siglufjörður, also known as the herring capital of the North Atlantic. Visit the Herring Museum and enjoy a beer tasting at a local micro-brewery. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Perhaps opt for an optional visit to a geothermal swimming pool or embark on an optional whale watching tour. Overnight in Akureyri. (B,D)
 

DAY 8
LAKE MYVATN
LAKE MYVATN

Explore Goðafoss, the waterfall of the Gods, and continue to lake Mývatn, known for its rich bird life and extraordinary volcanic lava landscapes. Visit pseudo craters, walk in the lava field Dimmuborgir, climb up to the rim of the ash crater Hverfjall, see the hot springs and bubbling mud pools of Námaskarð, and travel to the crater lake Víti in the Krafla geothermal fields. In the afternoon relax and soak at the Mývatn Nature Baths. Overnight near lake Mývatn. (B,D)
 

DAY 9
EAST ICELAND
EAST ICELAND

Travel to Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall in the northern part of Vatnajökull National Park. Unearth the northernmost fjord on the East Fjord mountain range and the charming isolated village of Bakkagerði with its 120 inhabitants. Continue driving along Borgarfjörður Eystri, enjoy the view of colourful and impressive mountains, visit a traditional Icelandic fishing village and learn more about local folk tales involving elves. Overnight at a local guesthouse. (B,D)
 

DAY 10
VATNAJOKULL GLACIER
VATNAJOKULL GLACIER

Today admire the dramatic fjord landscape and its tiny fishing villages and en route visit an interesting stone collection. In the afternoon, reach Vatnajökull – Europe's biggest glacier - and experience a boat ride amongst the floating icebergs on the glacial lagoon at Jökulsárlón. Overnight in Skaftafell area. (B,D)
 

DAY 11
SOUTH ICELAND
SOUTH ICELAND

After breakfast, explore Skaftafell at the Vatnajökull National Park, covered by ice and nestled below Iceland's highest mountain, the 2,110 metre high Hvannadalshnjúkur. Walk close to one of the many glacial tongues, cross sandy desert and drive along the south coast. Continue strolling along the black lava beach and bird cliffs near the village of Vík and stop at the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. Visit the the new Lava Center in Hvlosvöllur and  watch a documentary film about volcanic eruptions in the past years in Iceland before returning to Reykjavik for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 12
FLY TO THE UK
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight back to the UK. (B)
