Ideal for the first-time visitor to Iceland, this classic circular tour brings together the natural wonders, majestic landscapes and unique character of the country. Enjoy stunning waterfalls, steaming hot springs, grandiose glaciers and icebergs, ancient lava formations, and dramatic coastlines teeming with wildlife, as well as traditional wooden villages and fascinating historical landmarks.
Following the same itinerary as our very popular Iceland Complete Group Tour but in a much smaller group, this fully escorted small group tour has departures from May to September.
For your comfort and convenience this is a small group tour with a maximum group size of 16 persons.
Enjoy a morning tour of Reykjavik before heading through Hveragerdi village. Continue to the Golden Circle and unearth Gullfoss, the ‘Golden Falls’, and the nearby Geysir hot spring area to see the famous Strokkur geyser. Journey along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss before continuing to Dyrholaey nature reserve*. Overnight in Vík area. (B,D)
*Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season, approximately mid-May until June 25th.
Cross Eldhraun, the largest mass of lava ever to flow on earth, before reaching Kirkjuaejarklaustur. Continue over Skeidararsandur sands to Skaftafell, a beautiful glacial area within Vatnajokull National Park, then continue to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon – a birthplace of icebergs. Throughout the day, enjoy magnificent views of the mighty Vatnajokull Glacier. In the evening, reach the town of Hofn, also famous for its excellent ‘langoustines’ (Norway lobsters), and opt for an optional dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Hofn area. (B)

Drive from Hofn through Almannaskard pass, stopping en route to admire the majestic coastline. Continue to the magnificent East Fjord mountains passing through coastal fjord villages. Overnight in Egilsstadir area. (B,D)
Explore the highland plateau Modrudalsoaefi and, en route to Lake Myvatn, stop at Dettifoss. Visit Namaskard pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colours. Discover the natural beauty of the Lake Myvatn area, including the pseudo craters at Skutustadir and Laxa Salmon River. Overnight in Myvatn area. (B,D)

After breakfast, explore the peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Travel to Akureyri, making a stop at the magnificent Godafoss Waterfall and the old turf farm, Laufas. Reach Akureyri and walk through the colourful northern ’capital’ of Iceland before continuing along the coastal road of Eyjafjordur towards the town of Siglufjordur. Overnight in Siglufjordur. (B,D)

In the morning, visit Siglufjordur‘s Herring Museum and learn more about when Siglufjordur was transformed into a herring boom town, thanks to a large migration of herring. Continue to Skagafjordur, home of the unique Icelandic horse, towards the village of Blonduos on the river Blanda. Cross Holtavorduheidi plateau through Borgarfjordur to the town of Borgarnes. Overnight in Borgarnes area. (B,D)
Today continue to Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in the world. Stop at the Hraunfossar Waterfalls before continuing to Lake Thingvallavatn and Thingvellir National Park, the ancient site of the world’s first outdoor parliament. Overnight in Reykjavik. (B)
