Kyrgyzstan: World Nomad Games & Beyond

15 Day Tour, from £2985 per person

Mountainous Kyrgyzstan has served as a cross-roads along the Ancient Silk Road for many centuries.  Whilst the majority of the population are ethnic Kyrgyzs, there are also a number of Russians, Uyghurs, Tajiks, Tatars, Uzbeks and Dungans reflecting its place at the heart of Central Asia’s nomadic roots.  Kyrgyzstan is home to some of the most stunning scenery in the region, with beautiful Alpine lakes, towering mountains with snow-capped peaks, forests, rivers and vast grasslands.

On this trip we will get under the skin of nomadic culture, staying in a traditional yurt camp, learning about nomadic cultures and traditions and spending time immersed in the spectacular scenery. The highlight of the tour is visiting the 3rd World Nomad Games, held on the shores of Lake Issy-Kul.  The Games started in 2014 and are held here every two years, with nomadic nations from across the world arriving for this ever-expanding spectacle to demonstrate their skills at various traditional nomad sports including traditional wrestling, eagle hunting, bone throwing and the enduringly popular and fast-paced kok-boru (also referred to as headless goat polo).
