Deep in the Arctic Taiga forest of Northern Finland, Muotka Wilderness Lodge is a perfect location for an escape from the world to re charge. Situated next to the Urho Kekkonen National Park away from light pollution, Muotka offers the perfect location for northern lights viewings and winter adventures such as snowmobiling, reindeer and husky sleigh rides, snow shoeing and other Arctic adventures.
All excursions on days 2-3 indicated below are included in this holiday, but the order in which you enjoy them may vary depending on timing and snow conditions when you arrive in Finland.
After breakfast visit a reindeer farm and meet the reindeer herders, learning all about the importance of reindeer in Lapland. Try your hand at lassoing a reindeer and enjoy a short reindeer sleigh ride. Board a snowmobile and ride through Lappish landscapes before stopping for lunch.
This evening, escape to the unpolluted fells for an open view of the northern sky, where with any luck the northern lights will dance in an array of colours. Head out by car, or try snowmobiling in the darkness underneath the aurora borealis. (B, L, D)
This morning embark on a husky sleigh ride, following a trail through the Arctic wilderness. You will be taught how to handle the sled before heading out on the husky safari, where the huskies will pull your sled through the beautiful winter scenery, passing along frozen Lake Inari. Travel through snow covered scenery before enjoying a picnic lunch by the campfire.
After dinner, settle in to a comfortable sledge pulled behind the guide’s snowmobile and head out for another Aurora hunting trip. Park at the Aurora Camp where there is no light pollution at all and warm up by the roaring campfire with hot drinks and biscuits while spotting the northern lights. (B, L, D)
