An hour from Ivalo - Finland’s northernmost airport - Muotka Wilderness Lodge is set deep in the forest, next to the arctic fells of Urho Kekkonen National Park. Far away from any light pollution, this remote Lapland lodge is the ideal spot for aurora hunting. Spend winter days exploring the silent snow-covered landscapes on included snowmobile and husky safaris, before heading out to gaze at the night sky.
All excursions on days 2-4 indicated below are included in this holiday, but the order in which you enjoy them may vary depending on timing and snow conditions when you arrive in Finland.
Fly to Ivalo and transfer to Muotka Wilderness Lodge. Enjoy dinner at the lodge’s restaurant, where seasonal Lappish cuisine is served daily, before checking in to a cosy Wilderness Room. Begin the Lapland adventure with a thrilling snowmobile safari. Speed across the crisp white landscape to a local reindeer farm and enjoy a short sleigh ride before the exhilarating snowmobile ride back to the lodge.
After dinner, join an aurora hunt, heading up into the fells where the northern skies open out into a blanket of stars. (B,L,D)
Visit a nearby husky farm and discover more about these working canines before setting off on a two-hour dog-sled ride through the icy wilderness. Learn how to drive your own team of huskies, stopping to warm up with coffee and pancakes around the campfire.
Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge or unwind with a traditional Finnish sauna. (B,L,D)
Spend the morning exploring the beautiful forests surrounding Muotka on a guided snowshoe walk. On this trek, head to the forests and hills surrounding Muotka.
