Travel beyond the Arctic Circle to the idyllic remote town of Longyearbyen, nestled deep within rugged mountains and icy plains, where charming colourful buildings sit in stark contrast to the snow-capped hills and mountains that surround them.
Beneath the midnight sun spot an array of birdlife migrating to Spitsbergen to take advantage of 24 hours of daylight, explore the dramatic coastlines, sail on the icy fjords and even try your hand at summer dog sledding.
This Svalbard holiday is available from May until August.
Arrive at the airport and transfer to the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel for a 5 night stay.
Board an open boat for a safari on the Isfjord where the Arctic wildlife is incredibly diverse. Your guide will share their knowledge about the Arctic area as you keep your eyes peeled for seals and whales. In the afternoon, let a local guide show you around Longyearbyen with a walk through Longyear valley and the town before heading out to Adventdalen towards Mine 7. Reindeer are often seen on the journey, and in the summer months, thousands of migratory birds converge on the delta. (B)
Head out on an electric catamaran for an eco-friendly cruise to the Russian ghost town of Pyramiden. Sail through the icy seas towards Billefjord and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like seals, foxes, and if you're lucky, polar bears. Over 1000 people used to live in Pyramiden until the the 90's when the mine was shut down and the city was quickly vacated. Today, you can still see the coffee cups abandoned where they were last put down and the music lying in wait at the piano to be played as you explore this perfectly preserved, Soviet era mining town. (B)
Dog mushing is no longer only for the winter. Experience dog sledding without the snow, driving a specially designed wheeled sled to enjoy the fresh Arctic air and mountain views as you tour Endalen past the cableway turning station and towards the old Gruve 5 mine. (B)
Enjoy a free day to explore the colourful town of Longyearbyen or book an optional excursion. Perhaps you'll choose to go kayaking through the waters of Adventfjorden or spend an evening in the atmospheric Arctic wilderness at Camp Barentz. Speak to your Regent Norway specialist about adding one of these exciting activities to your holiday. (B)
