South East Asia City Stopovers

Travelling to South East Asia with Regent Holidays? Why not add a stopover in one of our four key stopover cities: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore and explore the hustle and bustle of these exciting Asian cities. Each city has its own unique flavour but all offer an extra dimension to your South East Asian holiday.

Travel to exciting Bangkok, a city bustling with a rich Buddhist heritage and an extremely friendly populace. Visit stunning Wat Pho, home to a 45-metre reclining Buddha, or head to the Temple of Dawn for a steep climb to the top and panoramic views of the riverside surroundings. End with a stroll around the iconic Grand Palace complex sitting proudly alongside the Chao Phraya River, a must for any visit to the Thai capital.

Head to Hong Kong for a taste of China. Returned to the mainland in 1997 by the British, Hong Kong is a curious mix of colonial touches and traditional Chinese culture all mixed together in an energetic palette of colours, sights and sounds. Dominated by the glittering harbour in the centre, take a trip up Victoria Peak via the Peak Tram to enjoy the stunning views of both sea and harbourside. Descend and explore Temple Street Night Market to enjoy some traditional dim sum or Chinese barbeque.

If your preference is for Malaysia then Kuala Lumpur, or KL, is where it’s at. Home to the Malaysian Grand Prix the city also has an interesting and compact Chinatown area, excellent for sampling Chinese dishes or hunting for a bargain.  Alternatively head out of the city to the nearby Batu Caves the popular Hindu shrine or take a trip up to the observation deck of the Petronas Towers, the view of the city lit up at night is rather magnificent.

Finally why not think about Singapore. To many it is regarded as a modern metropolis but modern Singapore dates back to 1819 when it was founded by the British statesman Sir Stamford Raffles, of Raffles Hotel fame. Today Singapore offers a host of fascinating museums to explore including the Chinatown Heritage Centre and the modern Peranakan Museum. There is also an excellent Botanic Garden, the famous Singapore Zoo and why not end a busy day with dinner at the popular nightspot of Clarke Quay overlooking the water.
