Suggested Itinerary
|
| Day 1 |
Upon Arrival in Barnaul
we will enjoy a morning city tour of Barnaul before
transferring to Srotski Village.
From here we will transfer 430km to Teletskoe Lake,
enjoying en-route an introduction from our guide
to the Altai region. We will also have our 1st meal
as a group here, lunch in the city of Biysk.
On arrival at the lake, which is 78km long and has
a maximum depth of 353m we will check in at the
Teletskoe Tourist Complex, where we will stay for
two nights. |
| Day 2 |
Today we will make an excursion by boat to Stone
Bay and the Korbu
waterfall. After a relaxing picnic on the shore
of Teletskoe Lake
we will return to our tourist complex.

| Day 3 |
Today we will transfer 250km to the Berel Tourist
Complex, situated on the banks of the
River Katun. Here we will be accommodated
in this peaceful area in two-storey wooden cottages.
From here we will make an excursion to Tchemalskaya
hydropower plant, a fully operational plant
and visit the island of Saint
Makaryi. |
| Day 4 |
Today we will raft along the Katun River from
Berel to Ust-Sema,
passing through the Iradash
and Seminkyi rapids.
In the afternoon we can relax in a banya before
preparing for tomorrows departure.

| Day 5 |
After breakfast we depart to
Ilgumen (165km). Here we will be accommodated
in basic wooden houses. After lunch we will have
our last full day in Russia at leisure, free to
relax.

| Day 6 |
After breakfast we make an early journey to Tashanta
and the Mongolian border, where we will part from
our Russian guides and meet our Mongolian guides
who will accompany us to Ulaanbaatar. After border
formalities cross into Mongolia and arrive in
the town of Tsagaanuur
where the driver and guide will be met. Transfer
to the Eagle Tour tourist camp, visiting the regional
capital of Olgii
en-route. Here the Bayan Olgii museum can be visited
for those who wish to learn more about this Kazakh
inhabited region of Mongolia. Overnight in a traditional
Kazakh Ger.

| Day 7 |
Today drive to Khovd,
capital of Khovd Aimag and the chief industrial
town of western Mongolia. En route we will pass
rock inscriptions and visit the monument to Hasbaatar,
an independence fighter against the Tsarist Army.
The drive will also afford beautiful views of Tsambagarav
Mountain, one of the highest peaks in Mongolia
which stands at 4202m. We overnight in Khovd Itself.
(240km Driving). |

Day 8
|
After a visit to Khovd's Museum we drive to Hyargas
Lake in Uvs Aimag. The lake provides a
summer home for migratory birds, and due to its
location receives far less attention than the
larger Uvs Nuur to the North. The night is spent
camping at a particularly scenic spot on the north
shore of the lake. (260km driving).

| Day 9 |
Today we make a lengthier journey eastbound to
Telmen Lake in Zavkhan Aimag, a beautiful
region of Mongolia with spectacular forests, deserts,
mountains and rivers. The night is spent camping
at this quiet spot beside the lake. |
| Day 10 |
In the morning we depart heading South East over
the Khanghai Mountain Range,
the second highest mountain range in Mongolia en
route to Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur
Lake. This freshwater lake, set amidst a
stunning area is a lovely spot and famous to all
Mongolians. Overnight in a ger camp. |
| Day 11 |
Today take a break from driving and enjoy the
day in the local area with an excursion to Horgo
Mountain and a horse riding tour. Swimming
and fishing in the areas is also recommended. Overnight
in a ger camp. |
| Day 12 |
Today we head further east through the Arkhangai
region to the hot springs of Tsenheriin
Jiguur. Upon arrival enjoy bathing in the
springs. Overnight in a ger camp. (230km driving). |
| Day 13 |
Today we drive to Orkhon
Waterfall, a stunning waterfall located in
the Khanghai Mountains. En route visit Tuvshun
temple, where the 16th Century religios leader
and famous artist Zanabazar created some of his
fantastic 21 taras sculptures. Overnight in a Ger
camp. |
| Day 14 |
Today we make the short 145mh journey down the
Orkhon river to Karakorum,
the ancient capital of Mongolian and location of
the Erdenzee monastery. |
| Day 15 |
Today we make the short 90km journey to Bayangovi,
where Hugnukhaan Mountain, a nomadic family and
sand dunes can all be visited. A short horse riding
tour can also be taken. Overnight in a Ger camp. |
| Day 16 |
Today we make an early start and head to Ulaanbaatar,
(Red Hero) via the Hustain Nuruu nature reserve,
where with luck the extremely rare Takhi, or Przevalski
horse may be seen. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar we
will take a short city tour (time permitting). In
the evening enjoy a traditional folklore concert
for the last night before transferring to a hotel. |
| Day 17 |
Transfer to Airport for departure flight home,
or transfer to railway station for onward train
to Beijing. |

1. The above itinerary excludes international
flights, which are available through Aeroflot
and can be booked direct through Regent Holidays.
2. Regent Holidays can book travel to Barnaul
via train from Moscow and elsewhere in Russia
for those who would like to start their trip in
this way.
3. Regent Holidays can book travel onwards to
China at the end of the group tour for those who
wish.
4. The above itinerary consists of many nights'
ger and tented camping and travel in rather isolated
regions. We do therefore require that all members
of the group have a good level of basic fitness
