Classic Kyrgyzstan Tour - Central Asia (9 Days)

Holidays in Central Asia- Tour Itineraries

A 9 day extensive tour of Kyrgyzstan from £1395 per person

Arguably the most beautiful of the Central Asian Nations, Kyrgyzstan is a nation rich in nomadic traditions caked with the awesome mountains of the Tian Shan and Pamirs. From the pleasant capital of Bishkek this brief tour moves on to the peaceful town of Karakol, via Lake Issyk Kul, the worlds second largest Alpine Lake. Here our traditional yurt camp will be the base for leisurely outings to the stunning valleys and gorges of the region and allow us to familiarise with the sights of this "outpost" town. Moving on, visit Tamga and the sights along the southern shore of the lake before returning to the capital and flying home.

Suggested Itinerary in Kyrgyzstan
Day 1 Today depart London Heathrow on the British Airways flight to Bishkek
Day 2 Upon arriving in Bishkek in the early hours you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Silk Road Lodge. After a morning rest commence a guided afternoon city tour, the highlights of which will include the Orthodox Church, Oriental Bazaar, National Square, Museum of Arts and the Historical Museum. After the city tour return to your hotel for dinner.
Day 3 After breakfast depart Bishkek and drive along the western shores of Lake Issyk-Kul to Bishkek. En route you will visit the 11th Century Burana Tower (an ancient Silk Road staging post) and the prehistoric petroglyphs at Cholpon-Ata. Following a tour of the Issyk-Kul museum you will enjoy a traditional Kyrgyz lunch in Cholpon-Ata. After lunch we board a leisure boat where we will enjoy a two hour cruise along the lakeshore to the Aurora health spa and resort, where you will spend the night. Here after diner your evening is at leisure.
Day 4

This morning you will transfer to Bishkek though the villages of Eastern Issyk-Kul, visiting the site of St. Matthew's burial en-route. On arrival in this picturesque town surrounded by mountains you will be accommodated in a guest room in the Yurt Camp Turkestan, where you will stay for 3 nights. After lunch enjoy a guided tour of Karakol city, highlights of which will include the Orthodox Holy Trinity Church, Chinese Mosque, Oriental Market and Przhevalsky Memorial.

Day 5

Today enjoy a full day trip to the picturesque Djety-Oguz valley, where red-cliffs are split to form what is locally known as the "Seven Bulls." We will transfer from Karakol by a 6 wheel drive Russian Jeep up the valley to the junction with the Western Telety valley. From this vantage you should be able to see the 5168m Oguz Bashi mountain. Here you will also meet with an Eagle trainer who will show you the hunting techniques they still use to this day, before returning to Karakol.

Day 6

Today take an excursion to the spectacular and peaceful Kasha-Suu gorge, leading off from the main body of Karakol canyon. It is less frequently visited than other areas in the region and makes for good day hiking possibilities in Summer. An easy walk here can be taken to Viewing Peak, from where a panorama of the valley unfolds. In the late afternoon return to Karakol, where, for your last night in the region, you can enjoy a Folklore Concert after dinner.

Day 7

We today depart this isolated region of Kyrgyzstan and transfer to Tamga Village. En-route the journey will take us along the southern shores of Issyk-Kul, the road hugging the waters edge and winding through remote villages against a backdrop of the breathtaking Tien-Shan mountains. On arrival in Tamga you will be accommodated at the Tamga Guest House. From here take an excursion to Skazka, a secluded valley of wonderful rock-formations. The rest of the day you will be at leisure to relax on the lake shore.

Day 8

Bishkek is our destination for today, the last full day in the country. On the return journey visit the spectacular waterfall in the Barskaun Valley. You will also pass through Bokonbaevo village, where you can observe the production of national handicrafts. From here we stop on the lake shore for a leisurely lunch before pressing on to Bishkek, via Boom Gorge. On arrival in the Silk Road Lodge in Bishkek enjoy dinner and your last evening in Kyrgyzstan on this short but fascinating trip.

Day 9

This morning you will transfer to the airport for your morning British Airways flight to London.
