Zale, an old Slavic word for cemetery, is the largest cemetery in Ljubljana and was designed by Slovenia’s favourite architect – Joze Plecnik. Modelled on the basis of various architectural styles from classical Greek and Byzantian to Oriental, the impressive two-storey monumental entry arch is said to divide the world of living from the world of dead.
