Serbia is located
in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula, in
the south-eastern part of Europe. The Republic
of Serbia, together with the Republic of Montenegro,
is a constituent part of The State Union of Serbia
and Montenegro. It contains two autonomous provinces:
Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metohija.
For centuries, Serbia's
capital city, Belgrade, has shaped and reshaped
itself on the banks of the Danube and Sava rivers.
Belgrade combines arts and culture with great
architecture - both classic and modern. The city
has a range of museums and galleries for those
seeking a more cultural experience including the
Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum
and the Ethnographical Museum, the Gallery of
Frescoes and the Palace of Princess Ljubica.
Belgrade boasts some
of the greatest nightlife to be found anywhere
in Europe which includes a variety of performance
arts including world class operas, concerts and
theatre performances. Whether a night out includes
dinner with live music in the Bohemian Skadarlija
district or relaxing at one of the city's antique
cafes or on a house boat or enjoying the city's
burgeoning club scene - you are guaranteed to
have a good time!
Stretching along
the banks of the Danube, Novi Sad is the elegant
capital of the autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
Known as the 'Serbian Athens', the city has many
museums, galleries, libraries and theatres.
The country-side
abounds with beautiful national parks, flowing
rivers and superb mountain scenery. For example
Prokletije, the Alps of the Southern Europe, has
the highest, steepest peaks in Serbia. Visit traditional
villages like Valjevska Kamenica. It is known
for its hospitable people, which may have something
to do with its famous double distilled brandy!
The EXIT festival dates have been confirmed as July 12-15,2007.
