Opatija Holidays

Genteel Opatija, so called ‘Vienna on Sea’, is packed full of handsome belle époque villas and palaces, thanks to the Austro-Hungarian elite holidaying in droves during the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Most of these villas and palaces are now home to recently renovated luxury hotels offering wellness facilities and gourmet restaurants. 

There are no real beaches in Opatija other than ones formed from concrete, but the water is still spectacular and temperate. The Lungomare coastal walkway stretches 12km to the lovely town of Lovran and is the perfect way to while away a few hours.

In the evening head over to the picturesque fisherman’s village of Volosko, where there are lots of small bars and a sellection of wonderful restaurants to choose from.
