Belgrade is a great year-round destination but really comes alive during the festival season from May to August. In Vino, Belgrade's annual wine festival is held in May at the Sava Centre and was established in 2004 to celebrate the best of Serbian viticulture. The International Folk Dance and Song Festival will be held in Belgrade from 9 to 14 July 2013, and our favourite in August (14-18th Aug 2013) is the Belgrade Beer Fest, where you can taste over 30 different beers (Serbian and International), as well as listen to live music. Exit, one of Europe's largest music festivals, takes place in July in the Petrovaradin Fortress in Serbia's second city, Novi Sad, located about 85 kilometres from Belgrade.

Take a city break in Serbia and revel in the atmosphere and effervescence of a country rapidly reinventing itself as one of the most exciting and refreshing destinations in Europe. Eager to put memories of its turbulent history to bed, this attractive, landlocked country at the crossroads of Central and South Eastern Europe has established itself as a safe and welcoming place to visit with plenty of historic sights and cultural activities to savour and enjoy.

City breaks in Serbia tend to focus on its up-and-coming capital of Belgrade. With exceptional museums and galleries, a pulsating nightlife and an abundance of cafés and bars, it is a truly exciting place to spend a short break and watch develop as it stamps its distinctive mark on the international scene.

The compact Old Town with its elegant architecture is easily covered and admired on foot, especially as cars are banned from many of its streets. Take a stroll up to the magnificent Kalemagdan Fortress which overlooks the city and contains vast parkland, a zoo, a history museum and observatory amongst other things. The Ada Ciganlija beach is just a short distance from the town and is a great place to relax during the summer months.
