City Breaks in Sarajevo, Bosnia with Regent Holidays

Sarajevo City Breaks - Bosnia 2008

3 night city breaks in Sarajevo from £295 per person including flights.

Sarajevo has a fascinating history, nestled between wooded hills and divided by the babbling river Miljacka, in the centre of Bosnia Herzegovina. The Bascarsija is the main market square, and the hub of the inner city with over 40 narrow lanes emanating from it - these lanes are filled with traders in copper, leather and woodwork. In the market you can buy carved wooden toys and handmade tin coffee pots and cups. Sarajevo is packed with places of worship. The neo-Gothic Roman Catholic Cathedral dates from 1889. The Jewish museum was a synagogue when it was built in 1556. A nearby Orthodox church has been there since 1539.

Not to be missed is one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture the Gazi Husrev Beg mosque, which first opened its doors in 1531. It is one of the many mosques in town and during the day you can hear the muezzin sound out from all over the city.

Regent recommends... sampling delicious Bosnian cuisine at the restaurant Pod Lipom located in Bašcaršija. There are a several tables outside where you can taste cevapi – tasty spicy sausages served with onions in a warm pita bread.
